Since, there seems some interest in non-traditional methods of the golf swing. Here are 3 that I have tried or used. There are more but these three I feel...

azgreg There is an instructor, maybe Mike Adams but maybe not, who teaches based on front, middle, rear post concepts. Complete with tests to see which of the three you are. It’s interesting. Going by what I recall and based on what you said there, you might be a front post golfer.

azgreg I agree. If I set up well and have a good takeaway I'll usually hit a decent shot and if not my miss is better.

With my irons (only carrying up to 6i now) I do tend to favor staying more on my lead foot and hitting more of a punch shot. I know I can hit it at least a club further with a full swing, but the punch is so much more consistent in direction and yardage. I guess it's my version of stack and tilt.

Did something like that last night with irons on my last 5 shots. All were struck well high and straight. Hmm, hope it isn’t WOOD (works on one day).

Reminds me of the "golf course" I set up around our yard when I was about 11 or 12 years old. It had about 3 "holes"
of about 50 yards each.....and putting was just as unpredictable as it is at this "course" in Maine. But, Hey....I was a KID!!! 😂

Back on topic. Can someone describe/define exactly what a "traditional" golf swing is? What is the baseline or standard that these other swings deviate from?

Since, I started the discussion, my definition is basic modern PGA type swings resist with lower body double plane swings. Basically what's taught by PGA instructors nowadays. That's how I look at it. I am sure others look at it differently.

Thanks for that, Scott. Do you know the history of when that became standard? I'm just curious. I know Johnny Miller had a big reverse C, but don't know if he used the X factor resistant stuff. Arnie and Jack were special. Ben Hogan seemed 'traditional' to me by your definition. Bobby Jones?

If you look at the PGA now most are much the same cookie cutter swings not like the old PGA of the 50s/60's and earlier.

Scheffler even with his different foot work is much the same they ALL resist with their lower body to develop power and distance and double planers other than Bryson. There are a few different but most of them all want to look like Adam Scott. JMO.

scotts33 Agree, relative to pros and scratch players. I was only thinking about GolfBuzz players. I do like Sheffler's follow through, not so cookie cutter like.

From my local perspective. Stricker is kinda non-traditional. Jerry Kelly is more like Hogan so consider him traditional. Jerry is flatter swing plane ala Hogan. Just two that I think of and see swing more often than others from a see them up close perspective. Videos can skew what's really happening.

scotts33 Both guys are what I think of as characters. Not the same thing nor speak in the standard cliches. Characters seem to have their own swing. I prefer characters., not so much Cheeseheads though😎

Sitting on my back porch, lots of characters playing the local course. Did not know there are this many ways to hit the ball.

These are the Non-Traditional swings/teachers that I think of that have some validity that can/could work for an Indvidual.

Jim Venetos, Moe Norman Todd Graves Kirk Junge etal, Sparks Bros Positive Impact Golf, Bill Owens Stephane Bachoz Triangulaid FlowMotion. There some others but these came to mind because I for one can do them all with some confidence and if you can teach this old dog a new trick then anyone should be able to learn a different technique I figure. 😆
