Guys. give this club a shot if you are driver shopping. Doesn't get much buzz, but it is sweet. As I've been dealing with Cobra paint issues 6 months ago with an F7, and again now with an F8, I picked up an ST180 locally on Craigslist. Comes in a nice Spuzzified blue.
With a PGA Tour Superstore near my office, I go over and use their launch monitors a couple of lunch hours per week. So I keep track of my stats while I am club ho testing. Here's some of my past average numbers.
Cobra King LTD, Fuji 565 S, 45.5": Club 106, Ball 146, Spin 2900, Max Carry 248.
King F7+, Fuji SIX XLR8 S, 45.75": Club 108, Ball 148, Spin 2950, Max Carry 249.
Callaway XR16, Fuji 565 S, 45.5": Club 106, Ball 146, Spin 3200, Max Carry 252.
King F8, Fuji SIX XLR8 S, 45.75": Club 107, Ball 147, Spin 3300, Max Carry 250.
Also, about 3 months ago I went for a driver fitting. M4, Epic and Rogue, reg and SZ all testing out within that range.
This ST180 I got came with an aftermarket Mitsubishi Tensei CK Blue 50 S - which is close to the stock Blue 60 S or Orange 50 R. Also came in at a shorter 45", while I usually prefer 45.5"-45.75". But if I liked the head, my fave Fuji SIX is waiting.
After a couple of launch monitor sessions, here's what I got:
ST180, Ck Blue 50 S, 45": Club 105, Ball 150, Spin 2500, Max Carry 255.
I played one round with it yesterday - 12/14 fairways. It was a hilly course, so I couldn't really get an on-course distance feel, but it was just a solid driver round.
Even at the highest loft setting, my launch is still 10-11 though. So, thanks to the 15% ebay coupon yesterday, I have a High Loft ST180 driver coming my way now. And at only 45", I might be able to squeeze out a few more yards going to my preferred 45.5".
I know the ST180 doesn't rate high on the Golf Digest "demand" list, but it is worthy of a look.
