rsvman You can search the forum for "Goobers." It's a golf game I came up with to make the game more fun (and faster) for those less skilled.
Good players get rewarded, but bad players can collect points (goobers) as well for various things that they are more likely to encounter.
For example: a standard fairway (1 or 2Gs) GIR (1G) two-putt par (2G) would be worth 4 or 5 Goobers total depending on distance from the hole on the approach.
A lousy player can benefit from hitting a cart path, getting out of a bunker in 1 shot (regardless of where the ball ends up) and most importantly getting the ball inside a stick-length with their first shot onto the green - even if it's their 10th shot. Any 1-putt is also awarded, which should happen more for players missing greens and chipping.
Also, OB is played as a red hazard.
Check it out. Once you're over bogey score is irrelevant on the hole, it just becomes about trying to get the ball close and 1-putt. I hoped the player would still feel "in it" even if they were hitting their 9th shot from the green side rough. They can still get a couple on the board.
You could manipulate the scoring to benefit the less skilled players, too. 3G for a cart path, etc. Might be a little more "luck" in it that way.
