One of my all time favorites.
RIP Bruce Lietzke
R.I.P. Good guy.
Just saw this on the news. So sad.
Just reminds us to enjoy every day on this side of the grass to the fullest.
RIP, Bruce
R.I.P. - One of my favorite all-time pros.
Sad to hear the news. I didn’t know much about him when he played, but it sounds like he knew how to enjoy life.
He had this over-the-top swing and hit a nice little butter-cut that always seemed to find the fairway. He left this planet much too early. Wasn't even aware that he was sick until the news came out today that he'd passed.
I look at that pic I posted and he looks so happy and full of life, not that long ago.
Don't take your good health for granted.
RIP
Wow, sad to hear. he was almost ten years younger than me. Scary thought. RIP Bruce you really got the most out of your life.
Sad,surprising news about a really good golfer who never liked to practice.
We were also the same age.
RIP Bruce
Some of you may not know that he didn't practice. To confirm that, his caddy once put a banana in his bag at the end of the season, and it was still there for his first tourney of the next year.
My daughter and I were just outside the ropes at the 12th tee in Phoenix when he came through. Bruce handed her a ball. The next year, I brought the ball with me and had him sign it, which he graciously did. Very nice man. RIP.
Glioblastoma is a terrible killer. It's what John McCain has and what killed Ted Kennedy. We had two guys in our golf group who died from glioblastoma. I think I read awhile back that the odds were like 100,000 to 1 and we had 2 guys in our small golf group get it. It's the type of brain cancer that when they operate they can never get all the cancer cells and it just starts growing again. It's basically a death sentence.
It seems that we see more people getting glioblastoma these days.
I knew Bruce when we were at the University of Houston. I was working as an intern in Athletics and he was on the golf team. He was smart, funny and friendly and in those traits he never changed. One of my favorite college memories is going to the NCAA tournament in Stillwater in '73(?). UH finished second but our crew was first in having fun I guarantee you that much.
He was never better than #3 or #4 on those UH teams and really was a better pro than collegiate golfer. I was lucky enough to see him win twice, the '81 Byron Nelson and the Ft Worth Tournament a decade later. Both times in a playoff.
I hadn't seen him since he was inducted into the UH Athletic Hall of Fame over a decade ago. RIP Lietz!
He also limited his tournament play to be with family more often. He had his priorities right.
It's always sad to see these things happen. But it's also great to see someone have the success Bruce had, given his priorities and the order he kept them in. RIP Bruce

Just saw that Jarred Lyle (Aussie golfer who has battled leukemia for most of his life) has decided to stop all treatments and is going back home to assume palliative care and be with his family. From the news article, the part I read from his wife who released the statement to the press, it didn't sound like he has too much time left. In fact, she apologized to some of their closer friends and relatives for learning about his decision via the news, but she's obviously simply trying to figure things out on the go herself... She made it a point to say that she would release the date/time of the looming memorial service at the appropriate time. That kinda makes me think he's not got much time left.
Very, very sad as well. Always liked that guy, seemed very jovial and a guy you'd really enjoy playing a round of golf with.
