FST PRO 125 tip trim question

Looking for any experience with these shafts, looking to trim them to a soft stiff /stiff for set of Pinhawk SL heads.

I've read a few comments that when trimmed to manufacturers recommendations that they play quite soft but would be more comfortable and trusting of feedback from the good folks here.

Probably looking at bulding to 8 iron length 36.5 but not 100 percent decided on that could even go 36 in the w,9,8 then 36.5 on 7,6,5,4

My opinion the X stiff even felt soft. Depending on your swing and how you load a shaft you may want to consider going x stiff in the pro 125. Especially if you’re adding 8-10 grams of weight to the tip. I don’t think you’ll feel the x stiff play stout or firm like the dynamic gold.

Not 125’s, but I put a set of FST 115 stiffs in some DTG SL’s and those things were STIFF! Also put some FST 90’s in some Prophet MB’s in regular and they felt a touch softer than regular.

Trimming for stiff flex 8i is 4 3/8". 7i is 3 3/4", in case you want softer.

Have not played these 125's, but have the 115's and they play as they should, imo, compared to other brands, same flex/weight.

edit: This trim is for the 125, and the Pro 125.

To the OP what I would do is build a test iron and try it before building all the irons. Waste one shaft not all of them to find your best tip trim for you personally. Not everyone is going to fall within your specific swing stats.

I have used all the FST Series shafts. In general, I found the FST Pro Series softer than the FST Series.

Bingo. Build a demo iron. The shafts are inexpensive.

I have been personally using the FST 115 stepped shaft for years. I have never tried the Pro series but have read where they play softer than the stepped FST shafts. I find the FST shafts to be better feeling and "smoother" than True Temper or Apollo. I started trimming my FST shafts to a R flex and now at 68 shafts trimmed to a senior flex per the trim chart fits me well.

Now, regarding single length. I think a big mistake many make with SL is trip trimming the shafts. Many decide they want to play the clubs at a 6, 7 or 8 iron length. So, if 6 iron length they tip trim the shafts for a 6 iron. Nooooo. Tip trim the shafts based on head weight. If your heads are what a non SL 8 iron is then trip trim them for an 8 iron. Then, if you want to play them at a 6 iron length butt trim them to your 6 iron length. I have played about 5 sets of SL irons. I have found that an 8 iron weight and length works best for me. I currently play Wishon Sterling SL's at 276g head weight and have the shafts tip trimmed for an 8 iron. I also play them at 38" including the wedges.

Ive built hundreds of iron sets, so yes will definitely build a test iron. I have just the correct number of shafts and no local source to easily get an extra so was hoping to get advice on where to start ....prefer not to waste a shaft but can play without the 4 iron temporarily if need be. ( these are being built for me)

Rick, yes of course will build to head weight which across the 7 heads ranges from 273.2 - 277.6 grams. I use a frequency meter so will be able to get them to the same throughout , but again was looking for advice on where to start.

My experience with the FST 115 shafts is that they have always been very consistent in weight and flex.

Weights on the 7 shafts are within 4 grams, have not measured raw frequency yet

Uncut frequencies have a 2 cpm spread , impressive !

What is the average cut weight on the FST Pro 115 shaft? I’m looking at reshafting my Apex irons.

Hireko dfsi is a good source for what you are looking for, sub 100g for a 5i.
