Do you have the I HATE CILANTRO gene?

For years I've maintained cilantro tastes like dish soap. Yes, I've tasted dish soap, unfortunately.

I got feedback that I was crazy for saying so and cilantro was delightful. Nope. Soap. I thought maybe it was just me, or maybe something was wrong with everyone else I've ever spoken with about cilantro.

Tell me someone else out there thinks it tastes like soap. Who hates cilantro? Who loves it?

Science has PROVEN I'm right based on my genetics to say that cilantro tastes like soap...who else drew that same card?

I'm with you...can't stand the taste of cilantro. So many people make homemade salsa that has a ton of cilantro in it and say how great it is. In fact, it tastes like shit (to me).

REAL Mexican food uses cilantro....it's good stuff!

I don't think I actually know what it tastes like. I've never singled it out. I love Mexican food though.

Do not like the taste at all - soap!
When I make salsa or pico de gallo I use parsley instead.

I like salsa better when it has cilantro in it. I don't think I've ever just tasted a piece of cilantro by itself, but I certainly
enjoy it as an ingredient.

My DIL made a batch of homemade salsa a few years ago and the cilantro was overwhelming. It was awful. I don't know if she used too much or if cilantro just sucks but it was terrible.

We enjoy cilantro when used in moderation in our home cooked Mexican food and salsa. My wife grows it in her herb garden so it's always fresh. I notice the lack of it as an ingredient when visiting a few of the numerous Mexican restaurants on our local circuit so there are some catering to those that do not like it at all.

I like a (very) little bit of it in salsa. For me, it gets overpowering fast.

Every tasty dish of homemade salsa I've ever made included cilantro.

The key is not adding too much. You want a "hint" of cilantro, you don't want it overwhelming the garlic and other seasonings (depending on your recipe of choice). But... if you don't like it - don't add it. It's not going to dramatically change the texture or taste. For some, it just adds a little pep to the salsa.
