I would not be opposed to making the country safer, and I would be open to considering significant tracking of weapons. I had a background check done when I purchased my firearm - if that isn't the case in every transaction, I think it ought to be.
Do you realize that, per a quick Google search, there were more deaths from falling down the stairs in 2017 in the USA than gun deaths? ANY gun deaths are bad, but people are dying needlessly in many other ways and many in much larger droves than gun deaths. It's hard to measure how many car accidents and resulting deaths are related to texting and driving, but I imagine it is a larger number.
I think we all would like to see less tragedy, but evil/unstable people will always be able to surprise those who are going about their business. If more strict tracking of guns can help make the world safer, I'm in, but tragedies will still happen, and they'll still be tragic.
