Thanks for the clarification on Timberlake... I just assumed that the SB halftime entertainers were not showing up there to perform without getting paid. And still find it hard to believe, but again - I don't really don't follow the halftime show to that degree. I'll defer to those who know more than I do about that. 🙂
And FWIW - it wasn't the worst halftime performance I ever saw. Several cool moments. Especially when Timberlake went into the stands and afforded a young fan a Selfie memory of a lifetime. Like I said - hard for me to be overly critical of an avid golfer. 🙂
I will say, however, that the late Tom Petty has (imo) had one of the more memorable halftime SB performances.
Keeping in mind that most all these guys lip-sync. Couldn't tell if there was lip-syncing going on last night, but I much prefer live performances. 😉
Sneak gets huge points from me for not complaining about one somewhat "either-way" call. The other call with Ertz... he clearly became a runner with at least 4-5 steps forward toward the goal line after completing the catch, and became a runner stretching into the end-zone.
I think the NFL needs to change this rule, and I think they will. Too many phenomenal athletic plays being recalled because of stupid rulings.
If you're a receiver, catch the ball, control the ball, and then run for 3-4 yards with control of the ball - how is that considered an incomplete pass? Now I also understand a Steeler's fan outcry in all of this, because this same situation went against them and ultimately led to a pivotal loss.
I just think the rule needs to be changed. Whether you're a "runner" or a "receiver" - if you're a receiver - once you've secured the ball and claimed possession of the ball - and you break the goal-plane, why make this controversial? Even the officiating crews themselves cannot determine the definition.
Simplify it. Reward athleticism and stop penalizing it simply because one player ran the ball and one player caught the ball.
Time for the NFL to get with the times imo. And how much "replay" time would this negate? Too much replay time these days. Baseball, Basketball, NFL...
Not a fan of getting it wrong, but definitely a fan of simplifying the rules to make it more clear-cut.
