Just driving today and coming the other way are 2 ambulances and a police car heading to the hospital here. Some days work gets to be crap, aggravating etc....and I get pissed if I don't get to the gym.

How much does it suck for that person in the ambulance? We're they sick and elderly? We're they like me with a couple kids, dogs, wife just looking forward to tomorrow when all of the sudden you're in an accident?

I had my life change in an instant 17 years ago, still seems like yesterday.

Just makes u realize how lucky we are to be healthy and on our own.

Great post, for a number of reasons.

Unfortunately, the occasional reminders don't seem to strike a chord with some people. I can assure you, however, that not a day in my life goes by without me thanking my Creator for the life he's given me, the family he's blessed me with, the friends he's surrounded me with, and the good health and wellbeing of those closest to me.

When you truly consider the plight of those less fortunate, how can you not feel blessed? It makes those bad rounds of golf seem as trivial as they should be. Perspective is always a good quality to live life by.

Every morning that I arise as I get older I try to remember the advice of a man 40 years my Senior, and this was when I was in my late twenties.

He said ... "Pat, if you get up in the morning and the Birds are out when it is raining, it will rain all day."

I thought about this and kept track of it for many years. Yes he was right. They have to eat, and if it is raining in the morning, then they know they will have to keep feeding themselves no matter the weather. But if it instead they are not out, then they KNOW it will stop. They are not dumb, they are though instinctive. Why be out in the rain when you don't have to. They also are not unfortunate. They are, as are We, Natures children. We and they can learn if we consider.

Try spending a week doing missions in some third world country like Nicaragua and your perspective will change as well. I witnessed kids playing in human feces, drinking the same water, and thinking it was normal. People that literally lived in a landfill, and made their living off of selling garbage, recyclables, etc. I gave these people a small bit of soda and a piece of bread, and I was sure that was all they would be eating that day.

As Americans, even those on welfare are richer than 95% of the rest of the world. We are so spoiled with wealth, that we lose it on stuff that others in other countries wouldn't even realize was a problem, because they were just trying to find their first meal in three days.

I have personal tragedy in my life that allows you to remember that life is extremely brief on earth. One day you are here, and tomorrow is not promised. I also realize that golf is my break away from reality, and a chance to enjoy my time. I don't have any other interests or hobbies honestly.

As much as people complain about spouses and how much crap you have to put up with from a wife or whatever, I do find myself hoping she won't kick me out before I get too old, because I can't imagine spending my later years (if I am still here) by myself and alone. Being alone to me would be worse than death itself. So I treasure my wife, and the love and joy she brings me every day, even amidst our present circumstances, which are hard to break the depression on.

I say all of this to anyone who may be struggling with anger, or hatred, or just pissed of at whatever in your life. Enjoy the sunshine, and the green grass, and that 10 footer for par that rolled in. Golf is a beautiful luxury that I do not take for granted. I do know that I'm blessed well beyond what I deserve, and I do have pity on those that just happened to be born in some third world shithole that is run by some tyrannical dictator. How is that their fault, and how was I lucky enough just to be born an American?

Besides all the daily grind to keep head above the water and meeting obligations in life.

I considered myself lucky than the average, quite a few times in life. The most recent one was an accident one year and 6 months ago. That stupid accident almost made me a handicap. The occasional pain and stiffness still reminded me of the incident.

If anyone does not have major issue, God will give us little things to complain to keep life interesting. Be thankful.

We have the Internet, which we use to post about our super expensive, pointless hobby... Yeah we are lucky as it gets. I try not to take any of it for granted, you just never know if/when it will all be gone.
