Definitely a good read. Can't imagine playing in that shape.
Two highest rounds in PGA Tour history
I watch a buddy of mine shoot scores like that once in a while. I've considered that he plays like he got run over by a horse, but who knows.
That means there's a PGA Professional that for two rounds of his life, I would have had a chance to beat? SWEET!!
Neat story - thanks!
puttnfool No way I’d have kept playing. Amazing that he was able to be so competitive at the U.S. Open so soon after rib injuries - I think that’s where his real grit was displayed. He couldn’t have been able to practice much.
Sounds like he led a happy life and died still playing the game he loved at a high level. Thank you for sharing the link. I think the open that year may have been my first exposure to golf. I remember watching parts of it on TV and not realizing until years later how hard that year was, but I don’t remember hearing of him or his story.
Ouch, separated shoulder, ligament damage in knee and cracked ribs.
Kinda makes me feel wimpish for only playing a 2 day member/guest less than two weeks after breaking an elbow.
Played pretty well too.
Wow, good for him for seeing it through. That’s when the tour was a miserable bitch to be on, 60 spots... wow. I thought Tiger making it through with the torn up knee was impressive, it was, but this is something else.
DC300 I wouldn't call Tiger winning a U.S. Open with a broken knee... in a playoff... anything close to a guy going out and hacking a ball down the course with a 5i just to finish the tourney and finishing some 80ish strokes away from the nearest competitor. There not even in the same realm.
DC300 Yeah, but after reading the article, I can understand why he did it. Must've just been a different time back then.
DC300 Yep, and it's amazing how much attention he stirs up just entering a tournament. Imagine what'll happen if he starts playing really well again and winning tournaments... and I'm not even talking about majors.
