Looking at some of the posts in the Low Loft Irons thread got me to thinking about the transitions between golf balls and how attached I've been to certain m...

On the odd day that I catch long distance clubs better, the ball in use becomes the new favorite. Warbirds were my first because they were straighter for me. aka I usually could find them after driving. Ihad an unusually happy front 9 at Whispering Woods , a warrior golf owned gc in Pinehurst, with their new super softs, that were my new friends that winter. All my other attempts with softies were mostly hard spins to dark side of the moon. Callaway came out with their super soft which is good for my slow mo swing now. If it's hot out, I'll play the good pro v Is I find or if I want something with a distance advantage for parr 5s, I'll load up a found top rock distance.

I've even tried non conforming ones best was MG Senior, but I keep coming back to Callaway super softs and it's winter again even in Dixie.

A bud likes the MG balls and says they spin like the ProV. He does not like the MG senior ball. He says those don't spin as much as the others.

Rickochet The regular MG balls are solid. Feel and play a lot like a ProV1. I've never tried the Senior ball.

I think the Sr. Ball has a ionomer cover, so would not expect.it to play anything like the c4.

For years the ProV1x was a hardest ball with less spin. Last year, the new edition reversed the characteristics of the balls. The ProV1 is harder in feel and spins less - lower flight, more roll. The X is softer, spins more and has a higher launch.

I've not tried the MG, but I have used the Felon, and the Rogue from Academy Sports. The Felon is ok, middle of the road on feel and not a lot of spin anywhere. The Rogue however, is one of my favorites. It has really good distance, feels kinda soft, and has fairly good spin for a cheap, illegal ball ($10 per dozen). Unfortunately, Academy looks to be clearing them out, at least in my part of the world.

I just sorted through my stash of balls. 262 total to include 5 doz Volvik Vivid, 4 doz. K-Sig, 4 doz. Hopkins Golf V-speed and 4 doz Srixon Tri-something and a pan full of mixed. 😜

I still have one of those, lying in a cactus planter on the patio. Played them a lot, because the Titleist (its big brother) was a buck apiece or more (!).

I went through a few years with Pinnacles after the wound balls disappeared. I remember a few of them breaking on impact, so you just found the biggest piece and played a new ball from there. I've played mostly Pro Vs for the last several years, because the feel is reminiscent of the old wound balls.

My golf ball history is a sad tale of consistent abuse. Criminal really. I’m currently under investigation for skulling them and repeatedly knocking them into trees. Verbal abuse and multiple counts of drowning them. 😞

I hit a 62 degree lob wedge 105 yards today😳 Too bad I was only 55 yards from the green at the time.

LBlack14 most companies these days refer to it as ionomer, at least what I've seen on the boxes, websites etc. But they mean the same thing,Titleist (Fusablend) and Tmag (Lothane) go all out for the fancy names, which are just marketing terms, but are the same cover material, surlyn/ionomer!

I have one of those. It is an "Alien 60° clone. Great from white fluffy sand but from hard pan traps I can get 150 yards out of it with a solid skull. Last time I played it I was in a greenside bunker 5 yards from the green. After my superb sand shot I had a full PW back to the green.

My experience with the MG Seniors wasn't as disappointing , but agree it probably wasn't longer than any other non-conforming balls I've Also tried like Felons and Bandits. Maybe I'll try the Rogues just for giggles if Academy still has them. Volvic vivids didn't really do anything special either other than making it easy to descriminate in scramble from others in my flight and still hid well in deep Brumuda rough. Not any easier to find under water 😉😉either.

I cannot remember all of what I have played for golf balls.
I remember that I started with Titleist branded X outs that I used to get at Walmarket and shortly after Maxfli Revolutions that I purchased from a salvage outfit nearby. These were soft covers that used to turn yellow over time.
These were really nice performing..if you didn't mind piss yellow golf balls.
I went through a Nike something-something phase and a 1st run Wilson Smart Core phase...
I am not going to take a picture as I do not want to get depressed about how many golf balls I own.

While I think Titleist ProV1s may be one of the best golf balls on the planet mainly because of performance and predictable results, TM does a great job of keeping up with them and I have done well grabbing discounted TM tour level balls when new ones hit the shelves.

backinit The jury is still deliberating on the Gamers for me. I tried the Gamer (actually Gamer Soft) for the 1st time two days ago. It performed well, but it felt like I was hitting a piece of chalk. Don't know if that is because of the temps. (high 50's - low 60's) or not, so will try again when warmer. But it reminded me of the D2 feel, which felt the same to me. I like to feel some spring or bounce in the ball and for some reason the soft version didn't give me that feel.

I have never tried Gamer Soft or Gamer Tour for that matter. Try it when it warms up some. The premium balls still have an edge over this one, but not by much. Sure, I would rather play a ProV1 or TM Penta, but I can occasionally buy Gamers for $10 online and it's way better then a $10 a dozen ball.

Well then, just hit the sweetspot!! It's not the ball, as everyone would like to think.
Hit the sweetspot....every ball feels like mush. Even a Pinnacle Gold! Or Top-Flite 7000!

My observations/my good fortune.(most times 😉)
