Death by Lightning on Netflix. Four episodes.
About the lead up to the election and assassination of President James Garfield. Will watch the last episode tonight. Very well done with good acting.
I’m a history buff, but didn’t know much about Garfield. Except that he was assassinated. He was a good and decent man who was in some tough battles in the Civil War, but never bragged about it even to his family.
And interestingly didn’t want or seek the Presidency. Ran on anti corruption and civil rights.
A politician will little ego. Rare even back then.
Shame he only served 4 months. Shows how an assassins bullets can alter our history. For the worse I might add. If you’re a history buff it’s a must watch.
Edit: Watched the last episode. Ironically had they left the bullet in Garfield he’d have survived because it missed his organs.
But doctors kept digging to try and get the bullet out using unsanitized medical equipment and dirty hands. The risk of germs / bacterial infection wasn’t accepted as real yet. So he died from sepsis infection. Damn shame.
