What to watch on Netflix
Black Mirror season 5 just hit. Can't wait to watch it.
Gotta say, I've watched a few episodes of Black Mirror and thought it was crap. Only saw some of the first season so maybe it got better. Every one I saw was a message show or morality play that was as subtle as getting hit over the head with a sledge hammer. Saw the one about the British Prime Minister who had to screw a pig on national TV to free a hostage. That was classy, but at least the story was decent. The one about people chasing points (likes) for popularity was crap. Oooh we use our social media too much! Who knew till Black Mirror showed us? The one about people riding exercise bikes for some reason that I've forgotten was dumb also. The one about the kid who got hacked jacking off in front of his computer and was led on a road trip so it wouldn't be shown to the world actually wasn't bad as I remember. Does it get better?

sdandrea1 I didn't watch BB for a long time after it was popular. It turned out to be one of the best series I have seen with a finale that was REALLY well done. The more I thought about it, the more I appreciated it. But I think I liked Better Call Saul, a spinoff of BB, even better. They're different beasts. For me, Ozark is another series not to miss.
Tinker I dumped it quite a while back for this very reason. The movie selection is really bad, but there are a lot of series that are worth a look. In the end, I couldn't justify the cost, as small as it is. I just didn't think I was getting anything on NF that I couldn't basically get somewhere else.
If you have a smart TV (I don't, so I am thinking about getting a Roku), you can stream a lot of really good stuff off the net if you have a good data plan. Our library has an online movie streaming service where you can "check out" movies to watch (4 a month, I think). There are some great movies on there, including classics and foreign films.
I don't really use streaming services as a rule. It's just that my library has an agreement with Kanopy, which allows card holders to stream movies. I haven't used it yet because I don't have the TV setup to do so. But I look through the list of movies (there's hundreds or thousands of them) and think, "Wow, that one sounds good. So does that one. And that one...." I think a lot of people don't know how many services are available through their library in this digital age. Not only does mine offer streaming movies, but also downloadable books, audio books, music, and games.
We have Hulu Live TV which replaced our cable TV. We subscribe to Netflix. We also got a $1/month promo subscription to Hulu.
After 3 to 4 months we are getting to a point where we've pretty much seen what we want to see on Netflix and Hulu, although Stranger Things is coming back in a few weeks. After that, we may drop Netflix for 6 months or so.
We also use the heck out of our public library which has a great supply of DVDs, both movies and TV series. We can get online and search all 25 libraries in the county, and if we want something we put a hold on it. The library pulls it off the shelf and sends it to our library for us to pick up. All of that is free.

There's another thread on this somewhere. We use YouTubeTV streaming sevice. We cancelled cable. We get all the channels we like (including Golf Channel). All major networks are local to your location, so it travels with us on vaca and to Florida. We stream to a Google Chromecast dongle from laptop or phone. Check it out at YOUTUBETV.COM
sdandrea1 i am currently debating between Fubo and Playstation Vue. No service I checked has every channel that we want....but either choice will save us $90 a month
Just finished In Plain Sight. Not sure where to go next. I do like the British crime series.
Update on YouTubeTV. They finally have the app out there that can he added to my TV's home screen menu. No more casting!
Barry on HBO is pretty good.
