we do fiber optic fake trees here. 4 ft high and put it on a table. works and looks great. I do led lights around our front door outside after Thanksgiving weekend is over. That is our traditional time to decorate for Christmas.
FWIW, I know people who use fake trees and store them, decorations and all, in a spare room and bring them out just for Christmas.
