Nicklaus had swing speed ~ 125 mph. He hit it 300 plus yards with a balata ball and a persimmon driver. I'd like to see what the manufacturers could do technology wise if they were unleashed by the USGA. How much easier could they make it. Haney said the USGA was open to increasing the size of the golf ball. Haney claims that would make the game easier for the average hacker.
I'd like to see bifurcated rules and equipment. One for tournament play and one for everyone else who plays the game for fun. Most people do not keep a handicap and play in tournaments. The average handicap hasn't gone down in years. More people are leaving the game than coming into the game.
The USGA needs to start thinking out of the box.
