Two more Central Cali courses closed:
Deer Ridge in Brentwood and The Ranch course at Diablo Grande.

Diablo Grande MIGHT re-open, but Troon is done managing as of the 16th of Oct and World International is trying to figure out what to do with it. They cancelled all contracts (including weddings at the clubhouse) after the 16th.

I cannot imagine having a wedding booked for Nov and getting notified at the end of Sept that they were cancelling your wedding... Golf tournament, whatever, book another location. Wedding? Wow.

One near us in NW Ohio called Spuytan Duyval was just sold to the metropark system and will be turned into a park.
Not the greatest course in the world, but that will just mean the courses left will be just a wee bit more crowded...

We might be getting one of ou closed courses back. Ahwatukee Lakes was an executive course that was closed in 2013. The H.O.A. took the owner to court after he closed it and argued that the space by law had to be operated as a golf course. I believe the final ruling came in of September of this year and it has to be restored. This was a really good executive course in its prime. Hopefully they can restore it to its glory days. Great course for beginners and experienced golfers alike.

Another one for SoCal....Borrego Springs Resort course will not be open this season. Not quite a full closure, but I suspect that will be next.

I played here a couple of winters ago, and it was probably the best conditioned course I have seen in 40+ years of golfing. Absolutely perfect grass everywhere. For a desert layout, it was shocking to see not a single blemish on the course. Sad if this is truly the end, as I loved making the trek out here to play 36 at BS Resort and Rams Hill.

I went through there on a motorcycle ride a few years ago during August (left the hotel in San Diego, through Campo, lunch in Julian). Holy hell it was hot. I have an air thermometer on the bike and I saw temps 110+ for almost the full day of riding that day and the next as well (through San Bernadino).

SVonhof Yeah, Borrego / Palm Springs / Phoenix is brutal in August/September. The Borrego courses generally close completely from April until November.

We had a nice par 3 18 holder close this year because the old man hated his kids and sold it to the town for $1 million dollars with he stipulation that they would use the land for a new fire/ police station and a park.

Ringoblack I was looking at houses over there, the whole market is on fire and thise things are like sitting ducks, feel bad for the home owners. I was tempted to buy because of the hope of great equity, but the wife wasn't risking it.

Shannon Greens and Cannon Ridge in Fredericksburg, VA. Both were owned by Carl D. Silver, and were closed to put in retail and residential money-makers.

Karsten, the home course for ASU, just closed here in Phoenix earlier this summer to build a sports complex for football & baseball. Sad to see it go, it was one of the few Pete Dye courses in the state. And it was great for the college kids to have it right there on campus. Now they need to travel about 5 miles to get to ASU's new home course, Papago. Might not seem like a big deal, but a lot of college kids don't have cars and public transportation in Tempe/Phoenix sucks. That being said, the new facilities at Papago are amazing.

Bummer on the Karsten course. That where I got my first and only hole in one a couple years ago. I have some pics on my phone from there. It was actually this week a couple years ago.

Also sucks to be taking away a Pete Dye course....he's not making any new ones.

I just saw on the news today that the second largest city in KY, Lexington's five public courses went $800,000 in the red this year even after belt tightening. It will be interesting to see what happens. Something I think is always interesting is that there is never any news on how much it takes to keep up the municipal parks which generate how much income?

I got into a pissing match when I laughed at the citizens of our community that want the city to devote tax dollars ($200k per year) to keep our bike share program afloat. I made the remark that the muni golfers are coming close to covering all the costs (except for capital improvements for cart paths, maintenance sheds, clubhouse improvements, etc.) for our courses and they didn't march on city hall demanding a new entitlement when the proposed increase in cart and green fees had to be increased.

My son-in-law is (or was?) on the parks board/golf advisory council in Lex. He didn't mention anything about this last week during my visit. He belongs to a private club but they were closed due to a pro-am event last Friday so he had me make an alternative tee time. I guess Thoroughbred isn't one of their munis as I suggested that one instead of going to Georgetown.

I haven't played there in years but Houston Oaks in Paris, a public course was a very interesting track. The cart path on the back nine goes through an old horse barn that has vending and bathrooms in the old horse stalls.

Rickochet = I've played Houston Oaks a couple of times and really enjoy the serenity and understanding that it used to be a horse farm. @livegolf has played it too and it is among the nice write-ups he did for many of the courses he's played around the country.

My SIL said the Country Club in Paris sold to a developer that was a strawman for an investor group that wanted to put in a new bourbon distillery with conference center and restaurant. It was actually rezoned from conservation - parkland to industrial to accommodate the distillery by the local commission. Once the neighborhood around the former course got wind on what the intended use was going to be, they raised a huge stink and it wasn't coming from the sour mash LOL. The developer bolted on the plan and said see ya, we will NOT be investing in Paris.
