mikeintopeka Rolling Meadows has been up and down ever since it has been in existence. The course is owned by the City of Junction City. Therefore, funding and staffing is dependent on the City government at any specific time. I haven't played it in a number of years. Some of our guys who played there once this past year said Rolling Meadows is attempting to change grass in the fairways and it was sorta like playing in a plowed field. They switched 9's at Rolling Meadows a few years ago. I preferred it the original way... but I'm old and don't like change!!!
Have been a member at Stagg for many years. A buddy and I own our own cart. That's where I play 7 days/week if possible. We have had some personnel issues over the past few years but have those worked out now. Have a new Super who came from Tomahawk in Johnson County. He's a real professional and, after only being on staff for about the last 90 days, has already made some positive change. I'm really looking forward to 2018 and how the course will look.
Some years ago, had a membership at Stagg and also belonged to the 'Champions Club' at Colbert. Tried to play both while still working. Could not justify both memberships so have settled in at Stagg. The "social connection" at Stagg is awesome and that's really what golf is all about.
When Mother Nature smiles on us again in 2018, you are more than welcome to join us any time. We have a great group of "geezers" that play every weekday. Ages run from mid-60's to the oldest being 77. You will see scores from mid 70's to mid 90's. We usually have a 'game' going for quarters. If someone loses 50 cents for the entire day, you'd think we wouldn't be able to buy food for the week!!! On weekends, the "regulars" are a couple of us geezers mixed in with some young flat-bellies. Weekdays we usually have an early to mid-morning tee time. Weekdays, we geezers play from the 'geezer tees'. The group consists of 10 or 11 of which we never know how many will show on any given day. If more than 5, we split into two groups. If 3, we play skins. 4, we play partners, switching after every 3 holes. If 5, Wolf. If two groups, group against group. It is lots of fun. Folks say we argue like a bunch of old ladies!!! Probably one of the most easy going bunch of nimrods you could ever find. Rules are 1.) No club throwing, life throws too many curves at you it doesn't pay to get that serious over a golf game 2.) 20 second looking for lost ball rule 3.) Hit it. Find it. Hit it again!
