My office is located near a PGA Tour Superstore and a couple of Dick's Sporting Goods, so the OEM clearance racks have driven away much of my components. The latest DSG clearance has put Cobra F7 in my driver/fw/hybrid spots ($240 for all 3). So much adjustment possible in those clubs, and I was always fighting the gaps between 4i - 2/3/4h - 3w. DSG had a lot of Odyssey Works putters at $50-$60. PGATSS had Hogan TK Wedges at $49. As much as I love clubmaking, components can't win with OEMs at those prices.
I still keep my irons as components (Dynacraft Prophet MBs). I prefer heavy graphite shafts, and for OEMs that means Steelfiber or Recoil. With those, you are looking at a $1,000+ set. I can still put together a good set of irons for cheap, this set of Prophets with UST Tour Weight graphites cost me under $200 all in.
Heck, PGATSS last month had a table full of clearance golf balls at $0.97 per sleeve. Tons of WS Duo, WS Fifty, TM Aeroburner Pro, Titleist Velocity, Titleist NXT Tour, Cally Speed Regime SR3, Bridgestone B330RXS. I bought 32 sleeves. I had so many golf balls I couldn't even find space to go buy the latest run of Kirkland balls.
