What do you look for in a Golf Bag?

For me personally I like a stand bag so I have the option to walk with it plus I like to have my bag lean on the provided stand legs instead of trying to lean it up against something else where it may slide and crash to the ground. My current bag has the 14 individual dividers, which is great for organizing the bag but it does produce more bag chatter. I think my next bag with have less dividers so that the irons can rest on each other rather than bounce around and clank against each other.

Color/appearance first. If I don't like the color scheme and appearance - not gonna matter to me how great everything else is that goes along with it.

Second would be the relative ease of club retrieval/replacement. If I'm having to fight with the bag to remove/replace a club into the bag - no thanks.

Lastly... pockets. I don't need a thousand pockets to keep tees, balls, gloves, range finder, etc. consolidated, but I do need reasonably-sized pockets so I don't feel like I need to scrimp on the things I feel I need during a typical round.

Everything else is pretty much negotiable.

Has to be appealing to the eye, don't want to look ugly on the course. For instance, the one above with this 'Spuzz' word on it - ugly as blue shoes that is! 😋

I walk as well, so weight is a big factor. Not the lightest weight though - have to strike a balance between functionality, durability, and weight. The lightest weight 'sunday' bag was just too limited - clubs hard to get in/out, etc.

I like the balance and leg operation of Sun Mountain.
I like the club and pocket configuration of some Ogio bags.

My latest favorite is a Ping Hoofer I got last year (same model this year too). Seems to combine the best of the above. Not exactly light weight, but makes up for it in durability. The towel loop wasn't large enough so I supplemented it. Only one loop too, so someone like me with lots of gadgets I had to supplement that too - but I'm not the norm (larger towel loop, club brush, pocket for phone/scorecard, range finder, bluetooth speaker - a carabiner did the trick).

Rather odd but ...the way it comes off my shoulder and then to the ground.

I had a Taylormade stand bag for a short time that would twist and hit my shin. I sold it.

ping Hoover is aces. Not too many pockets either...I'm golfing, not friggin camping.

I have a cart bag and a carry bag. I look for a cart bag with a retention system which minimizes bag chatter to protect my forgings. With a carry bag, weight is the deciding factor.

I have a cart bag (ClicGear B3) for my A set and a hybrid bag (Nike Air Hybrid) for my B set. Functionality is key factor for both - colour and style is secondary. Both bags have 14 individual dividers and lots of pockets.

Even though I always walk the course, tournaments and club events are always 18 holes and they are played rain-or-shine so of course I want to use my A set and the cart bag so I can be prepared for anything. I have a ClicGear cart so it works great with it.

OTOH I also like the versatility of a stand bag, but at 59 years old I find carrying for 18 holes a little exhausting. So I have a hybrid bag that I can carry for 9 holes when I'm playing at twilight, but I can also put on the ClicGear if I feel like playing another 9 holes or I'm just a little tired.

I’m a walker if I have a choice, so it’s a well functioning dual strap, reasonably light weight ( under 5lbs), a sturdy stand with a base that allows it to go on a cart without a hassle. Oh and the divider system, it doesn’t have to be perfect, but if there aren’t 5 slots or more, I’m out.

Above all that, I had to be built to last. I had a Sun Mountain 3.5 for 7 seasons that is probably still going, great bag, but it was “ugly” according to my ex, so I was gifted a new Nike bag. That pile of s**t is falling apart after three years of barely being used. I still see it’s with old Ping Hoofers with thousands of rounds on them, that’s what I’m looking for. I’ll be back to Sun Mountain, I really like the 4.5lb bag I saw in the shop. I don’t recall what the model is, but at some point I’ll have one. My only concern is it has 14 dividers, I have had a bad experience with clubs getting stuck in a similar system and eventually tearing it out. I stuffed three into one slot to see about it with this and it seemed ok, I presume that’s the difference between a $40 bag from 20 years ago and a $240 bag now haha.
