This swing wts is interesting parameter. It does have quite an effect in the little I've played with it. Using Value Golf estimator my 7 was C 4.6. Felt very stiff and had to put lots of effort into strikes. I added 4 g. Lead to cavity with noticeable improvement in feel and ability to stike with less effort calculated sw =
C6.8. If I change from 63 g Star grip to 40 g Golf Pride sw calcs D 1.2.
I have read grip wt justs fools swing wts calcs but it changes total wt and balance. Thinking I'll change the 7 grip and see what effect it has. My Ping iron shafts are counter balanced so I thought that the heavier grips would simulate that a little.
Thoughts?
Matrix Reloaded
Adding weight to the head will soften the shaft flex, which you apparently prefer. Lead tape is cheap
and a really good experiment based on what you've experienced so far. A lighter grip will not do that.

Thx for response. Just wondering how grip wts really effect club fitting. I saw special back wt grips being touted couple years ago but they seem to have faded into past fad status. I bought a ultra light driver 270 last year and cut it down to 44.5",had to find 20g special light grip for it to keep stock sw. It's in closet btw.

I used to pay more attention yo swingweight until I needed larger grips for shock absorption. That made me realize that total weight seemed to affect my swing more than swingweight. I use GP Tour Wrap 2G Jumbo grips and I think they are 73 grams.......25 grams heavier than the regular size. That throws swingweight out the window, but they feel great.

I like those grips too
I got a set of mid size Star grips several years ago from fgi fellows stash when they still sold red ones.
I've moved them two or three times between irons. Use two wraps of tape. Nice & soft still look like feel like new. I don't play that much so doubt I can wear them out in this life time. Gonna try though. Made in USA
Maybe I can use them to actually hit a green once or twice. That'd be my ace, you bum. Your partner
Allen's scores look to be back more in my playing area. sniff bless our hearts
Follow up to this project
I added lead tape to increase calculated swing Wts to C7- C9. ~ 4 g per head.
Feel is good now and not boardy at all anymore . I'm getting a nice penetrating trajectory which is fine and I'm low ball hitter . The feel is r flex + with their frequency at 273-275, not sr flex feel I expected. Better dispersion on good strikes even with more the demanding Mizuno MP 57 CB heads. I landed all my PW and 8 iron approach shots and all the parr 3s and even birdied 1st hole which was my first in LONG time.
Going to take a long time to get proficient with the Mizzys with more playability less forgiveness but I now like the feel and trajectories, Their classic look is great too. Old school is me with emphasis on Old.
Good shafts is my assessment. Guessing it doesn't matter with Matrix closing up. Find something you like , it disappears.
