Sparky OK....my diversion into Ping irons has come and gone. Time to make my own again. So, what options remain for iron heads these days (low offset)?
Wishon - great stuff, but the current lineup doesn't thrill me once the 870ti was discontinued.
Maltby - The ST-I are interesting, except for the jacked lofts/lies. Maybe the TE Forged as I was a big fan of the M05s.
Hireko - The XV Tour Blades are interesting, but not available yet.
Golfsmith - I knew the end was near, but to see all of 3 closeout heads (TOTAL) on the website was SAD!
DTG and ValueGolf heads are too clone-ish, but I have gotten all my shafts from them.
Anybody else making iron clubheads anymore?
My honest answer to your question (apologize for the PING threadjack) is Hireko. The Acer line is very good and their Pro series have the reduced offset. That being said, I think their Dynacraft Prophet CB is the best design they ever made for the masses. At address, it does not look shovel-ish, but it is a very forgiving head. VERY strong lofts, however, so you have to choose your bag's gap strategy wisely, wedges too.
