Convenience and the guys I've known for years play there and I go with them. They have tee times believe it or not but it's a joke, u can just walk on. We all hitch about course conditions like a bunch of old people.

Next Monday they are going to install an irragation system. Should be nice if they hire someone that knows how to grow grass.

Also, course conditions add to the challenge. You can play here...you can play anywhere.

Typhoon After seeing that pic, I'm beginning to rethink your prowess with the sticks. Even I might be able to hit 300 on those 💩fairways! 😆

Rickochet I used to play one just like that, but the damn thing was at about 100 yards off the tee on a 400 yard hole and you really couldn’t go around it, to the left was OB and there were trees to the right. There was a slight clearing to the left, but it was straight danger to take aim there. It was go over or under, or more likely through it. I got to the point where I would intentionally aim right and go beyond the small pine trees over there into the 9th fairway, then come back over them to the green. It was about the safest play. I hated it, it was hole one and set the feel of the round. Very easy to get off to a horrible start. It was actually much easier to play that hole from the tips, they were elevated and back so you could get over the tree with a reasonable shot.

I guess I should mention, I’m a high ball hitter and couldn’t count on getting over it, the average guy has no shot to go over.

But given the clumps of grass - you could hit it dead down the center and end up missing the fairway (depending on the bounce) by 50 yards!

I hope the irrigation system will help. I’m also guessing that the daily fees will increase there, which could impact business. But if players have been getting a pretty good deal on greens fees for years, hopefully they recognize that the fee increase is most likely worth it.

We figure there will be an increase in green fees. I pay $20 walking for 9. The other guys a bit less being seniors.
You're right about the bounces! Never 50 yards further but we laugh especially on the 5th hole.. I've ended up hitting a draw and finding it in the right rough...or dead center and be in the left tree line 30 yards left of where it hit. Hit one this week that bounced so high we figured it hit control box or something....must have been the backside of a clump and went straight up because it ended up rather shortish.

They'll be over seeding our tee boxes next week. They haven't over seeded the fairways in a few years though. They actually paint / dye the fairways green in the winter at my course (Florida). This way they can fool the vacationing snowbird I suppose and justify the high greens fees in the winter.

Sneakylong I have seen the old green paint trick, it’s fairly convincing IF there is dead grass to paint, just dirt.. not so much. I played at a Disney course a number of years ago in October and found quite a few painted spots. Granted I’m what some may consider a course explorer, so I may see more than others, I just call it “looking for my tee shot”.

Darren, I've had a dead boxwood in front of my house for 3 years. We spray painted it green back then and nobody knows...
Touch it up every year. Guy across the street always compliments my yard. I told him about the boxwood...he almost died!

It (painted fairways) looks like live grass, but after awhile you see that the divots never fill in with new grass. The fairway becomes pitted with white (sand filled) pock marks. Plus everything is a tight lie.

We play a variety of courses, and the tee boxes vary from the sublime to the ridiculous. I'm thinking of two extremes: one is what I would consider my "home course," although I'm not a member....There, they go to the extreme of blowing debris, broken tees, etc. from the tee box using a leaf blower every single morning!! Keeps the teeing ground looking very neat and clean, but on par 3's, it's sometimes difficult to find a broken tee to use! (I
know....a very minor problem!)

Then at the other extreme, we play a very nice Art Hills layout, owned by the city, but run by a golf course management company who seems reluctant to spend a buck on maintenance.....the tee boxes at this course
are terrible! Most are crowned severely, so finding a level lie to tee off is very difficult. And then the tee markers
seem to be moved very seldom, so the turf gets worn out and ground down to bare dirt! We wind up moving the
tee markers ourselves at times. Definitely a problem.....
