Doesn't seem to get much air time.
How is Bones doing as an On-Course Reporter?
Meh. Not sure if it's his voice, or perhaps that (occasionally) it seems that he tries too hard to make the viewer feel like he knows what he's talking about.
I'm sure he'll get better with more experience and find his on-air style and voice. Too early to make an argument either way at this point.
I think he does a pretty good job with a little different take than the usual on course reporter.
And he seems quite happy not having to drag-a-bag for 18 holes anymore!
I like what he is doing and I think he is getting better all the time. I'm sure that this is a very different deal, and I don't think everyone can make this transition. I don't mind his voice at all and I think he makes some really interesting points. I hope he continues.
He is good. Well spoken and very insightful about how caddies work with their players. I think with more air time, he will blossom.
Doing great so far during Presidents Cup!
I agree. Probably his best performance yet.
IMO, there's one thing that separates Roger Maltbie from the rest, besides his obvious experience. He doesn't make a habit of competing for airtime, and when he does contribute it's usually something significant, he generally keeps his commentary short and to the point.
His insight as a caddie for 20+ years with Phil gives him perhaps an even deeper quality of insight, especially considering that he's generally well-liked and respected by all of the players, including the younger ones.
