Time to change my grips

On my driver and FWs I have been playing Lamkin Permawrap Oversize grips. Thinking of going to Lamkin REL 3Gen oversize Reds. Any other suggestions for something similar that might work? Thanks

I ordered Lamkin REL Ace 3GEN oversize grips earlier in the year because the light blue was on a great sale and I had some other items I wished to order from DTG. I put them on all my clubs as I had tested a couple of clubs with oversize grips (different grip than the Lamkin) and realized I seemed more consistent with oversize grips. Then I blew off the grips and switched them to my driver and a couple of wedges with similar results. Since I had played midsize grips for years I was still wondering if the performance improvement was a "honeymoon" and would go away so I decided to try something I may not have played normally. Not so much a Lamkin grip, but the light blue. But, with the great sale price at DTG I went forward.

That was months ago and I am well past any "honeymoon" and my game has steadily improved. Grip size change is probably something I should have done a few years ago as I aged. Even though I carry something to strengthen my grip in the car and use it - age is a relenting reality.

Back to the Lamkin REL Ace 3GEN Oversize grips. I disagree with several that have posted that these grips are slick. I always play without a glove and have found them as tackie as the Star and Pure midsize grips I had used in the last few years. I would agree you will need to clean them a bit more often, but I have always regularly cleaned my grips. The light blue color made me more aware of the fact they were getting soiling faster than I probably realized with my previous grips which were black. I always clean my grips with a cleaner than will also work to remove the natural oils of the hands. At the present I have a bottle of Awesome Orange degreaser that works great and is only a $1.00 at the Dollar Tree. As long as this is available at the Dollar Tree it will be my go to grip cleaner. Others brands also work well, but cost a lot more than a $1.00 and I don't see any difference in performance.

So with the free shipping available for orders over $49 this weekend, I placed an order on Friday for two sets (26) of the Lamkin REL Ace 3GEN Red Oversize. I have a set of clubs at my sons home in Brownsville, TX which will see a grip change and I wanted a back up set for the future for my gamers at home. At $2.99 and free shipping this weekend I didn't want to let the opportunity slip past me. You gotta love the quick service at DTG. Only a couple of hours after I place the order via the web, I received notice of USPS priority shipping with the tracking number.

I'd stick with the perma wraps if you can find them, great grip. The rel 3 gens are nice too, a bit of tack with a velvet style pattern, but you lose the wrap pattern which I love with the perma wrap. The closest replacement if you stray from lamkin is the tacki mac perforated tour pro wrap OS.... IMO. YMMV. The tm OS is a bit smaller than the lamkin, sorta between mid and OS.

I'm loving the Tackimac unified grips. They are as cheap as it comes for good quality and have good feel. I have logged a few rounds with them, really like them a lot, it's amazing how much better I'm hitting shots I choke down on now.

I played the mid size REL 3 and found it to get slick very quick, I would not spend my money on them again.

Hit them with Westlys Bleche-white from the automotive section...they'll be like New.

I'll second that. These grips are slick right from the get-go. Tried them, shitcanned them quickly.

otoh, the Lamkin Crossline ACE 3 GEN are keepers. Tacky to begin with, never use a glove with them, and I've got some on clubs that are 3 yrs. old. If they ever start to feel the least bit slick, I just spray them with an Orange cleaner and use an old toothbrush on them....good as new for several weeks again. They just never seem to wear down for me. I've had them so long I'm not even sure they are around any longer as I remember buying them up dirt cheap from DTG.(the grey w/red endcap) Other than those, I use the Crossline blacks; pretty much the same quality as the ACE 3GEN.

Typhoon I had good luck with Simple Green, but I got so damn tired of washing them all the time, I took them off.

No, I spray on westlys and either use a brush or just use a good towel and rub the crap out of them. They'll feel like new.

Pay attention to the grip weight. Many have thrown their club balance off with grips some 20-30 grams higher in weight. Example:

I really like the Pure DTX midsize. They're so tacky I have to have someone pry them from my hands after each shot...😆

I like the Winn dri-tac series, mostly for their softness. They just do not hold up very well, after a year, they look like something was eating them.

3 Gens are great. The REL I think I never tried. I tend to stick to GP tour velvet. Cheap, easy to clean and last.

I love the midsize Golf Pride CP2 Pro grips. Best grips I've used in years.

I have a hard time spending $10 for a grip. The Lamkin 3 Gens, the REL that Ringo mentioned and Tour Velvet are a decent price.

The only grip higher priced grip I'd consider is the Golf pride MCC4. I have them on my PM Grind wedges and love them. My fitter put one on my driver and I love it as well. All my other irons have tour velvet but I'd consider changing for that grip.
