These NFL owners compensate professional football players very well, not based on race, but based on skill level.
So let Spike Lee protest all he wants - it is his right. Let the media continue to portray Kaepernick as a victim, it is their right. But they're not going to strong-arm NFL owners to hire replacements/backups that they feel lack the talent and the means to contribute to the wins/losses of their teams.
This all comes down to skill level. Kaepernick has shown nothing over the past three seasons that warrants any owner to consider him over other more-talented players they have to choose from, players who very well might be simply appreciative of an opportunity to show their talent versus an attention-whoring, below-average athlete who can't read defenses, who can't perform under pressure, who can't replicate the level of play that he was once known for under a completely different style of football.
This isn't about football. This is about an athlete who lost his way, who eagerly severed ties with his former team in a backup role, who is now relying on the media to elevate his flash-in-the-pan success in the NFL to something above and beyond what he has earned based on his talent.
I do not hate Colin Kaepernick. I just don't think he's focused on his career as an NFL player, and that (to me) is precisely why he can't land a job.
If Russell Wilson was in Kaepernick's situation, Wilson would still have opportunities, even if his current owner let him go because of the distractions he presents. Why? Because Russell Wilson has talent and can win football games.
It really is that simple.
