Agree, I don't even think of my PW and GW as wedges, they are only ever used for full and 3/4 shots from 105-125, maybe once a round a bump and run.
I carry a SW and a 60* , these clubs are both versatile and I use them for full, 3/4 and 1/2 swings as well as for chipping/pitching and sand play. My instructor has me using the same swing but of different length ( back and thru) with my wedges for the different length shots. So with 2 wedges and 3 length swings I can cover most yardages and trajectories from 100 yards in.
I think it's paramount to match the wedge's loft, sole width and bounce to your swing and course conditions. When courses are wet and lush requires a different wedge than when a course is hard and firm. Variable bounce wedges , of which I carry one, can be effective and versatile
