Every year I try to replace my 2009 Nike something adjustable driver. It's 45 inches and I really need 44 for better consistency. Usually I try the OEM bargains, something well under $150. For resale I never want to mod them, and they never work with a poop.

A few weeks ago, I tried a Srixon 355 head that I shafted with a PL Platinum .350 shaft. Even at 44 the swingweight is D4, which is on the heavy side for me. It's a heavy head. The feel off the face is very nice and soft. I love that. But my Nike setup still fits better. I probably should buy a .335 adapter on ebay and try again with some shaft I have a better idea about.

Today I've glued up a Wishon 919 with their white label shaft, at 44 inches. I bought it last year just before the deadline for Colorado orders. I even bought the fancy headcover. 🙂

This was an expensive failure. It is very low launching for my swing. Seems quite hot though.

Why not just try a higher launching shaft...?

I don't think it's close enough to try reshafting. Plus that can be a rat-hole. I used to have a favorite shaft but lately I can't tell what works and why. Shafts are so expensive now that I hate to go too far down that road.

I bought a $9 tip for the Srixon on ebay. I'll try a shaft in it instead. One try. If that one doesn't work, then both drivers have to go. It's really interesting that I cannot beat out a 2009 driver. It does have some poon in it, though.

What I haven't mentioned to this point is the lofts. I am a LOW hitter and need lots of driver loft. The 919 is 12 degrees, and launches way too low. All of the 10.5 heads with adjustment to 12 are no good for me. I need a native 12-13 degree head and it has to be a high launch design besides. So there are not that many of them in the OEM world. Mostly Cally and Ping. I suspect I should try a Ping G. BTW anyone have a K15 12 degree they don't need?

Quit hitting down on the ball!! Raise the tee and move your stance sideways just a couple, or so, inches.
And quit buying heads and shafts, unless you want to be called Steve, fer crissakes!!

More about the Srixon 355. The head is so heavy. It is designed for a counter balanced shaft. I bought it without a shaft, so I tried the PL Platinum. Even at 44" it came out D4. And even though I tipped it an inch, it's too soft. It doesn't have the right swing feel and it's too heavy besides. The head itself feels very sweet at impact.

So there's $30 or whatever down the rathole, because I decided to try a cheap shaft that I had no experience with. Now I need to find a CB shaft of some flavor. I see Ping Alta pullouts for $29 shipped. I only wanted a 44" build, at around D0. I dunno. I'm used to heads that are too light, not to heads that are still too heavy at 44", lol.

Why not backweight with a heavier grip or butt weights? I'm on the reverse end of the spectrum, I typically like my drivers to be around D8. I usually install a lighter grip to get there.

I'm low ball hitter also. Fitter put me in my geezer friendly 12* Ping G15 with regular flex soft tip way back when. When shaft broke this year , I replaced it with regular flex , mid/ high launch rated shaft again. Our Sr group here seems invested heavily in high lofted , old K15s or G Series ,like mine, or nice newer models too.

Provisional the only improvement I have seen in the Pings are reduction in spin, that's not really helping somebody who needs lift, k could see why you would all like those clubs, especially the K, that was an arrow.

" Fitter"...the key word. I decided to be done trying different shafts based on how people I don't know hit them. I figured out the $25 bucks I was spending on here really isn't a bargain when u try 4-5 different shafts that ended up no better than anything else.
