Pool table valuations?

I'm working on selling the antique pool table i inherited from my father, but I have no idea what it's value is. Anybody have suggestions on how to find out...

I have a 1929 nickel slot machine still in working order. I was curious to find the value. A found a dealer who was familiar with it and gave me a value of about $1200. The issue was finding the right buyer and one who could pick it up at my house due to the weight. He gave me a standing offer of $950 anytime I wanted to sell.

I don't mean to "pile on," but you have an additional issue, and that is the size. From the picture, that looks like a 6' x 12' snooker table, which means that your market just shrunk to almost zero because a person has to have such a large, open area available. I would LOVE to have a nice snooker table in my home, but even if you gave it to me for free and offered to pay to move it, I wouldn't have a place to put it.

I sold one maybe 2-3 years ago when we were living in Minneapolis. Think I got around $800 or so for it and the guy found somebody to move it and reassemble for $400 or $500. Mine was in really nice shape and replacement cost was in the mid $2k's so the buyer saved some money buying used. I think where you live could make a difference also in that if you're up north with long winters, more inside time for games, etc. Down here in Tampa, I haven't run into anyone with a table. Takes a big room for a full size table also. Good luck. Why don't you try donating it to a charity org or boys club or something like that where they might have space and would use it? Still have the move issue though.... Best wishes on finding it a home.

Larryd3 Hard to tell from a pic, but it looks like a ten-footer to me.

It's an 8 foot table. Basically an 8 foot by 4 foot playing area.

Looked standard to me all along.

I shopped for a pool table on the second-hand market a couple years ago. $1,000 seemed to be on the higher end of what was getting any action, and that was for tables in excellent condition. I don't see many issues with your table, but if they're there then you'd want to aim in the $600-$800 range.

I was able to have the table relocated and rebuilt for about $300. May have been a great price. Space and relocation are the obstacles people face in acquiring a table beyond the price of the table itself, and they can be significant.

ZWExton Yes, I expect the table is closer to the bottom end of the price estimate, which is why I'm saying moving cost is pretty much a wash.

Love this thing, but love those chairs even more! You can see the history in them.
Takes me back to the days of the old smoky pool hall, with the card room in the back, in my home town. Oiled wood floors, spittoons......a place where women dared not set foot in to, except to poke their head in the door and yell out a name!!

Par4QC Unfortunately, balls and rack are from the '80's when my Dad acquires the table. You're right about the chairs. Foot rests are well worn and the seats polished by thousands of butts sliding in and out over the years. Stray saw cuts from someone that should have sought out a pair of saw horses. And, of course, multiple cigarette burns. The sort of character that one can only come by honestly.

Do you know if the top is a single piece, or if it is 2-3 piece? I haven't checked the history yet.

Par4QC It's a 3 piece slate made by Goodman Leavitt Yatter Co., Boston, MA. FYI, the bumpers arent as lively as they used to be. Not sure it makes sense to come from very far to look at it, but im happy to discuss it if he's interested. 🙂

Oh, if it's a 4 x 8, the chance of moving it just went way up. In my mind, that's the perfect house-sized table, and you can play a lot of different games on it (and put a ping pong table on top of it 🙂). Also, while heavy, it isn't so onerous to move it.

Bankshot I had the rails/bumpers redone on mine, wasn't a big cost at all.
