Right there with you, although this year was pretty tame in the hood, but years past there always fireworks going off past midnight!

As a first time father to a 4 month old, I have to agree with this post. Last night was brutal.

I feel for our vets that did 'live' service in Vietnam or the Mideast and suffer from PTSD. Some have posted on local boards that the loud shells cause flashbacks.

They think that and they also don't care about anyone but them. But, that is what has happened to society as a whole. If you can do it, you should, damn the other people around you, you are number 1 and should be treated as such.

Our neighborhood actually wasn't too bad last night. Yes, there were the big mortars and such going off, but when we went to bed at 10pm, we left windows to the bedroom open and slept just fine as it seems everyone went to bed. I was actually shocked at this, since Monday night, at around 11:30pm, an M1000 (or similar) was set off nearby. Scared the crap out of us since we were just dozing off to sleep.

Oh, and the only legal fireworks in our town are "safe and sane".

You guys are lucky,you only have to deal with the noise one day a year.
Here in Utah we also have Pioneer Days on July 24th,it's like the 4th of July all over again.
We just had the largest wildfire in the US up in Brianhead ski resort,you'd think they would ban
all fireworks due to the extremely high fire danger this time of year.....but hell no.
Firework stands pop up every July all over town.
And yes,people have little regard how it affects our animals....and their's too!

We have a small internet group called "Nextdoor" for various neighborhoods in our small city where you can post about local issues including lost or found pets. There are five new postings today about pets that bolted during the fireworks and now are missing.

Love the 4th. Always go to a few shows in neighboring towns. Living near New Hampshire where firework sales are legal...we get a lot of amateur shows around too. Actually a lot if impressive shows too. 2 houses across the street from us spend thousands and put on quite a show. Is it a smart thing to do half in the wrapper in the middle if the street in a suburban development...no...but hey, people are people.

As far as safety goes...there's never been any damage to property, no injuries ( I admit to being suprised on this one) and NEVER once have the cops come....another suprise because they go on for about 20-30 minutes.

Our area is unincorporated so anything legal in the state and less than 10 megatons seems okay . The 7th was today and still every time tonight when I take little Mitzi out to potty, they are firing off more rockets or mortars. Jeez guys just give it a rest. Hope they run out of $ to burn soon.

We had one for Sophie, our pit bull sweet fur baby. Thunder or fireworks we'd put it on her and it did help her. She had epilepsy attacks too, so we'd try to be proactive in preventing them. I'd recommend.

I've tried everything for our beloved mixed Lab... even the "thundershirt" which is supposed to wrap around the dog snuggly to make him feel more secure. Might work for some, but it hasn't worked for our beloved "Bandit."

I just try to negotiate these situations with a loud floor-fan turned on at the highest setting, and also turning the television up loud, in hopes that he doesn't detect the goings on.

Dogs tend to pick up the high-pitch noises... which is why thunder and fireworks are so difficult to muffle. He's losing his hearing at 13 years of age, but not losing it enough to rest easy during those evening storms/fireworks that reek havoc upon his nerves. 🙁

We have the same problem here too. Last week in June there are large tents setting up in and around our neighborhood with sales of fireworks. However they are not allowed to sell those that can go higher than 20 feet and no fireworks after 11PM. Good luck with that. We have about five homes where they set off fireworks from dusk til close to one AM. They are not the common fireworks, but the ones that are shot into the air. You can hear the whoomp as it is shot up in the air and it takes a few seconds before it goes off with a huge bang. Along about 11PM they take turns setting them off. First one and then the next and then the next so it is a continuous whoomp and bang. It gets to the point people in the neighborhood are starting to get very antsy and irritated. Not much you can do because this happens all over the city and even if you call the police they can only be in a few places at once. Small town and small police force. This also goes on Labor day as well.
