I don't mind the occasional township-coordinated fireworks on these celebratory occasions. They start around 9 p.m. and end around 9:30 p.m.
But the neighbors up the street about a block away - they have no concept of timing. And apparently they had a fairly big shindig around 11:00 p.m. last night. My 13-yr-old lab (who unfortunately has excellent hearing despite his old age) was well aware that the celebrations lasted much too long. He was a nervous wreck.
I don't wish bad things upon them, but just wish that they would be a little more mindful of those of us with pets who become petrified when they hear these impressive explosions less than a mile away.
I was pleasantly surprised to find this morning that there was no dog poop to clean up inside the house. But I could hear my old friend pacing downstairs, with the occasional "yelp" that I could easily interpret in human-speak - "WTF is going on here?!"
Some people simply don't care about others. That's my take on it.
I'm seriously considering starting a formal petition that forbids fireworks after 10 p.m. here locally. Knowing, of course, that it won't be strictly enforced. But sitting on my hands and doing nothing while my furry friends are stressed out of their minds - I can't accept that.
What occurred last night was waaay over the top. And frankly I'm getting pretty sick and tired of it.
