okee dokee....review time!
It's an early review, one range trip and then one session on a launch monitor. Prophet Muscle Blades shafted on UST Proforce Tour Weight graphite stiff. Most of this is a comparison to my gamer set, Wishon 575mmc on Recoil 110 F4. Built to the same length and swingweights, so only the loft differs.
Appearance - deviating from my garage bench review, the hitting area on the PMBs is the same length as the 575mmc. The toe of the PMB is a little higher, the top line a little thicker, with a bit more offset (but still low offset).
Range - Couldn't get a good read on distance as I was hitting into the morning sun. The PMB has a good feel for a cast head, but obviously clickier than the forged 575s. Sole went through turf fine. My range impression was that the PMB was more forgiving, I didn't seem to lose as much on bad swings.
Launch Monitor - Compared 5i and 9i. Average values below.
9i - 575mmc (42) - 86 club speed, 99 ballspeed, 26.1 launch, 7000 backspin, 128 carry.
9i - PMB (40 loft) - 86 club speed, 100 ballspeed, 28.1 launch, 5700 backspin, 139 carry.
5i - 575mmc (26) - 117 ballspeed, 19.4 launch, 5100 backspin, 176 carry.
5i - PMB (24 loft) - 119 ballspeed, 16.5 launch, 5400 backspin, 180 carry.
The deviation for the 575mmc was quite a bit higher, so it does seem on first look that the PMB is more forgiving.
Sadly, I did forget my gloves for the launch monitor session, and I felt like I was holding back a hair more on the PMBs which had slicker grips. I'm going to go again, with a glove, Monday and see how the numbers compare. But my first run through says that I am getting the expected gain from the 2* loft decrease, but also that the PMB appears more forgiving.
Playing on Tuesday, may have to put these in the bag and see how they do.
