  • Working on a new swing and it's "working."

My golf swing has been inconsistent for a few years now due to reasons beyond my control. I took lessons way back when from one of "The Golfing Machine" Instructors, Alex Sloan. Those were my best golfing years. Fast forward to now. I sometimes have balance issues. I have sore elbows and a sore shoulder most of the time. Just out of sheer luck I found a youtube video with Dave Seeman on the "vertical golf swing." He's a "swing surgeon" instructor. Don Trahan is the swing surgeon. Anyway, it's working for me. I'm sure it's not for everybody but I'm more consistent than I've been in years...at least on the range and in my pasture...lol. And when I'm finished hitting 50-75 balls my shoulder and elbows aren't as painful. I haven't actually paid for the video, text lessons because I've found most all I need on youtube...I think. The final judge will be 18 holes at Dixie Oaks.

Between Seeman's and Trahan's free videos you have all you need. Seems like Seeman has broken away from Don as he never mentions him in his videos, especially the newer ones.

I had great luck with Don's method. I went to it after an injury, and I couldn't believe how much easier it was on the back. Over time, I drifted away from his method because, like clubs, "there's always something better out there, right?" However, recently I have been having a bit of consistency issues and my lower back is pretty much gone by the end of the round (getting older sucks). So, I have been moving back in Trahan's direction, limiting my backswing and turn, swinging more upright, and driving a little more with the arms. I have found that my ball-striking and accuracy has really improved again. I don't like Don's "I'm right and everyone else is wrong" approach, but when I was using his method I hit the ball really consistently, accurately, and just as long as ever (maybe even longer). He's certainly worth a look, particularly if you have any back issues.

I've been using Don's PPGS for about 4 years now. I went to it as I was having low back pain after 9 holes. I'm 72 yo now, and I'm scoring better now than I was 10 years ago. ONly downside I've found sofar, is a tendency to hit fat shots, I think it's a function of the vertical swing.

I don't have the balance issues with this swing. I put tape on my driver to see where I was hitting the ball and I have a much tighter grouping on the face of the club. I'm also making better contact. I hope it lasts.
