I have a Ping G series driver and I am not thrilled with the stock shaft. I really haven't kept up with what's available these days but I would like to try...

darpar I really like the Grafalloy Blackbird,super lite @ around 50grms yet pretty stable and CHEAP!

The specs look good for an old geezer like me.

I have a Blackbird in Florida in my S3 Max head. It's a winner as well.

I like the stock Alta shaft in my Ping G. Like was said Ping uses counter balanced shafts because of the heavier head. I also have a Mamiya VTS Silver as a back up shaft that worked well in my G30. Haven't tried it in the G head as the Alta is impressive for me so far.

You may like the heavier head feel and in that case a non-counter balanced shaft might be worth a try.

I found a new Wishon S2S White Plus 80g shaft in my bin and stuck it in a spare adapter I had. Trimmed to 46" and what a difference. The Ping G head with adapter is 200g. I have the same shaft in a Wishon 919thi. It works for me so much better than the stock 55g shaft. Getting super distance with very tight dispersion.

Rickochet light weight shafts aren't all they are cracked up to be, I like heavy myself.

I wish I would have stocked up on the s2s white plus when they were being cleared out....nice shaft, just a bit softer than the s2s black 85....which also is a great shaft....currently using it in a 919 HL head @ 12 deg bent open 2*.....tis a fwy finder!

If you like the white plus, stands to reason the black 85 would be a good fit.

You could always throw a couple strips of lead tape under the grip. I did that with the Ad di6 shaft in my M1 and like the feel. I had a hard time finding a shaft for the Ping G30 lst I had. The stock shaft seemed to be best.

I hear the Alta shaft is a great shaft though.

I think I have 4 of the S2S white plus. I haven't purchased anything from Wishon since the change over.

Rick - did you hit your bud's driver? If so, did you get the same results? You could get all the specs and shop for similar or get that one. My fav aftermarket shaft is this one. I had it in a Cobra S3 Max and it is $ for my swing.

I hit it a few times. His was set at 10° and mine is 13° and all I hit were worm burners so really couldn't compare. I definitely got distance and dispersion improvement with the heavier shaft. I was hitting a lot of left yanks with the stock shaft but the heavier shaft seems to have resolved the lefties.

Got to play the MP5 and Blackbird in the Ping G today. I hit a few balls into the weeds on the first tee then off we went. I put the MP5 in first which I had trimmed to 46". Drive on first tee felt like I crushed it with good trajectory. Great feel and sound. When I got to the ball distance was disappointing. Pretty much what I was getting with the OEM Alta. Same thing on hole #2. I was chomping at the bit to hit the Blackbird so I changed it out for hole #3. The specs recommend playing it at 47" so what is that I did. I did choke down a bit at first but bang, dead nut straight and long. The feel of the shaft seemed perfect. As I got warmed up I played it at the full 47" length and killed it all day. It was at least 20 yards longer than the MP5 if not more. Yes, it is first day honeymoon but I am really amped up about this shaft. Plus it is so stealthy looking with the matte black Ping G head.

Same results I got. That MP5 gives you that solid "I nutted that one" feel and the Blackbird throws it out there a little longer. I'm playing the Blackbird at 45", however.
