Reminds me of a guy I knew who chained his prized hunting dog to a spare tire in the back of his truck while he was heading out early one morning for a hunt. I'll spare you the tragic details of what unfolded.
Only to say that he should've taken the $5k he was offered for the dog a month or so earlier. So I guess there's no refuting twice the amount of stupidity.
