For the record, I hate that most every PGA Tour event has become named after some sponsor. I know it's a money grab, and the greed is what makes the Tour engine turn, but I'd prefer to refer to a tournament by either it's host or it's course. You can infer what you want from that.
That rant out of the way, It's Jordan Spieth's week to defend his title at Innisbrook from last year, and maybe I missed the memo, but he seems to have disappeared off of the radar. Since winning the select field winners only tournament at Kapalua in January, Spieth has the following record:
T5 @ Abu Dhabi
2nd in Singapore (he was the marquee player in what was no doubt an appearance fee against a weak field)
T21 @ Pebble Beach
MC @ Riviera
T17 last week @ Doral in (again) another invite only field
Maybe I am overthinking things, but how important is this week for Spieth, to actually either win, or post a VERY strong showing?
Is this just a slump, or something else? I know that seems crazy from an overall golf perspective, but when you are #1 in the world, the latest above record isn't all that impressive IMHO.
