garyt1957 athleticism was not the problem, technique was. Our best athletes would still need to get elite level training from early on for that athleticism to work...and that is no guarantee. The game is so much different then baseball, basketball, and football....forget about cherry picking athletes from other sports and thinking it will translate. I'm fine with our team being pretty good, continuing to build and one day ya never know they might pull off an epic run. I hope Posatino stays. He will help. They were the lesser team. It's not complicated.
For so many Americans (the most open-minded folks in the entire world), there's this myth that all of the best athletes play in the top three 'major' sports - and let's not forget the ice hockey players from the north woods. LOL That's absolute rubbish. There are millions of parents nowadays, in case one hasn't noticed, that refuse to let their kids play football. Soccer is the and has been the substitute for decades.

Part of the problem with US soccer is that it's expensive at the higher youth levels and only families with money can afford it. In other countries there is no pay to play.

Yeah, 90 degrees with high humidity. Living in Florida for the last 24 years you never get used to the heat and humidity. And we’re lounging in and out of our pool. Not running for 90 minutes. lol

Watching the game we were thinking they’d need intravenous fluid stations on the sidelines. Amazing to see both countries that don’t see that type of heat and humidity perform so well in those conditions.

You mean why did a player (in this case Embolo) get tossed from the game, short-handing Switzerland for the remainder of regular time and extra time, when literally innumerable players are 'flopping' all the damn time?
Yeah, that is the question.
What a ridiculous rule.

I’m pretty sure he knew the result for his team of receiving a second yellow, and that diving was punishable with a yellow. I might have had some sympathy if it merely looked like embellishment. But with no contact comes no sympathy. Frankly, I think instances like this one, where review shows no contact at all, it should result in an immediate disqualification. It might serve as a deterrent.

I believe you'd be right about that.
I just question the rule if it's only applied whimsically. That's a damn stiff penalty for what innumerable players do all the time. If the officials didn't have access to their on-field reviews and the VAR one can only wonder what all the fuss was about. It should simply have been a play on decision in real time. But it wasn't and Embolo has no one but himself and his acting ability to blame. He's the one that called attention to the play.
Doesn't matter to me the sport being played. I don't like officials becoming the deciding factors in competitions, especially not when they're in the wrong. This situation is a little more complex than meets the eye.
