He's a good kid. He'll play white when others are playing with us, knowing it can lead to longer rounds when playing 3 different tee boxes. And I sometimes will play back, from whites, just to keep things moving also. He will do blues sometimes when it's just the 2 of us. Makes no diff when you can hit 550+ in 2 shots. No matter where that drive was located. And sometimes those drives are not from drivers😖.

I'm 80.....don't know my swing speed, but on hard ground, downwind, downhill, IF I hit a sprinkler head or two, I can still reach 200 yards OCCASIONALLY. This usually calls for a celebration (even though it slows play down, if it gets out of hand). More likely, a well hit drive goes about 185-190.

So, I've been playing the gold (senior) tees exclusively for a couple of years now, which are anywhere from 5200 to
5600, depending on the course. Most of the "young bucks" I play with (anywhere from 72-75 years old) have finally given up and moved up front to play the same tees as I do.....

I usually play 6000-6400.

My home course card has the Whites at ~ 5700 and Blues at ~ 5900, but it's par 69 and they have been keeping the White tees back by the Blues for most holes. It's the elevation changes, doglegs and such that lengthen it a bit more. We just played "longer" courses down in the Orlando area, but they felt shorter with the runout the drives get there.

I need to explore what the white/yellow “combo” tees are specifically for at my course?…have never asked…and they are listed at 6,140. I do know that when playing leagues/tournaments at our course the yellows are Senior only (60+).

At my home course I alternate between white ₆₂₀₀ and blue ~ 6500. When I play with the older fellows I work with ( 2 mornings a week ) its usually white tees as they are all in their late 60's to mid 70's and one is 80.

On the Amateur Tour I play, my A flight tees average 6200-6350

i am comfortable with anything between 6000-6500. above 6500 it can be a grind but once in a while still do

The courses I play are 6000 to 6500. 6500 is pushing it for me. I prefer about 6200 if I had it my way

For 1 round this year I will play from the reds/ladies, 4900. Just to see. On a few holes there is not much diff, but a couple have a big diff in distances over the seniors, gold.

I don't want golf to be 'easy'. It's not supposed to be. I want to be challenged. It's why I play a few courses that have 'Hills' in their names. This is a hilly (or cliffs/bluffs) area. It's why Blackhawk chose it for his village😉.

Golds or combo tees. 5400-6300 or so is best for me. My good rounds are high 70s. My bad rounds are mid- to high-80s. I am reliably between 78 and 85 (or, on 9-hole rounds, between 38 and about 42 or 43).

Home course Whites are are just under 6300, but they're more often up a little than back, so probably closer to 6200-6250. The rare good drive still goes 225-230 in the morning dew.

ptjn1201 That's a good point. The vast majority of courses are playing well short of their listed distances.
I'm in Florida playing courses I've never played before. I dont know how many times I stepped onthe tee of a 375 par 4 and my gps says 340. I'd bet most courses are playing 300-500 yards short of printed distances.

I like 5700-5800 yards but will play up to 6200. 6200 is work though. I might play some 5500 yard type tees this summer. I played the senior tees from 5400 last year and it was fun.

Speaking of tees and distances, why do so many course have the women's tees at 5300-5400? Thats way too long for your average woman golfer. I tell my wife all the time that she's playing a much harder course than I am.
Most woman I see are lucky to hit driver 150. Using the common formula of driver distance times 28 is 4200 yards. Ive never seen ladies tees at 4200, they're all at or close to 5000.
Using the 5 iron times 36 you're looking at 4600 yards assuming a 130 yard 5I which might be ambitious.

Because course design idiots don't care about women. My wife has zero chance of getting a GIR on most holes at most courses we've played and the same is true for most of her peers. Only the BEST female players at our club have a shot at a few GIRs from the regular women's tees. We've recently become "woke" and added yellow tees which have made the game WAY more enjoyable for our lady members. 4576 yards.

It's just so stupid. You want a good pace of play but you make women play a course that would be like me playing 6800 yards. So dumb.

Although my wife can still poke it out there pretty decent she & over 90% of the ladies have the most fun when the format is every hole is a Par 3 that happens a couple times during the couples league season

Agree 100%. I never thought much about ladies tees (neither did most course designers evidently!) until Mrs. Fatshot began playing regularly with the lady members at the course where I worked summers. She would come home complaining about the fact that there was no way she and the other ladies could reach the greens in regulation.
Their only chances at pars was chipping and putting (kind of like us geezers today!).
