I don’t ever sell much and when I do I use FB local marketplace. While I was thinking of ordering a Qi4D driver for LD possibilities, I decided to look at the TM trade in program. So I have a Stealth 2 FW with an Aldila NV and the OG Stealth driver with a stock shaft I could trade in.

The FW $60 and the driver $75. They are vague about if that’s a flat fee, or can it go up in better condition. They tell you it can be less if it’s shitty. I know trade is basically half of retail but was amazed how low. I was hoping to maybe do an easy one and done transaction. Probably not

And you are wrong, if I may say out loud.
I've never seen any trade that would approach 1/2 of retail. Esp. talking golf clubs.

iirc, TM trade in is through 2nd Swing Golf. Not through TM.

Have a look at RBG, with their +50%.

And as far as any price going up, brand new in plastic will only give you about $10 more than 'used'.

Typhoon The preowned market has been bad in recent years. Most golfers will know the new multi-material laminated together clubs will not last long like they used to be. More and more warranty claims before the OEM warranty period runs out. So when the preowned golf clubs are not os much in demand, the trafe -in value will be much lower, by figured in the cost of inventory and refurbishing. Sell your old clubs on the web and I'd bet you'll get way higher price than what the trade-in could get you.

You trade it in on the TM website. There is no mention of second swing or Global golf.
When I go to Golfers warehouse they give you $50 and sell it for $99

Right. But 2nd Swing is 'TM pre-owned'.....they have almost 21K used TM clubs right now. So, who's setting the prices for trades?

That's 'used' retail, for them only.
RBG will give $86 for the driver. They will sell it for over 200. Hell, they have M3 drivers over 220 right now!

I've done a lot of trades with RBG. But only as a last resort of ridding myself of clubs. I post them here and when they don't move, I get nearly the same price at RBG as I was asking. I have a lot of credits there now from last Fall. Can't make up my mind as to what I 'need'.

What do you mean by "retail"? What they plan to sell it for?

Next observation comes from general prices I see at other places selling used clubs.

Par4QC I guess trading in is easier but I can’t believe the beating. Last year we had a guy at indoor golf trading in clubs through Cool Clubs. The trade in values this guy was getting must have come with a tune of K-Y Jelly and the barrel end of a baseball bat…. And he was taking it. I literally gave him the money for the clubs and sold the driver there at indoor golf that day and everything else within a month.
Our pro knows nothing about aftermarket shaft prices. Buys a $600 driver and then goes to trade it in for $200 with a Di6…. They actually told him no…. What he was doing was dumb. He sold it on his own but I don’t even want to ask for how much…. He probably did $150🙄🙄🙄🙄

I just wanted to do it to take the money off the purchase in one transaction. But it’s not even one transaction. You buy the club, then they tell you the value of the used clubs that you send back in the box that your new driver came in…. So you’re sorta at their mercy.

Typhoon Callaway has the best trade-in prices. A lot higher for your 2 clubs than any place I looked. But at that, they are still low prices & not where you want to shop. Just not going to get any good money for them via trading in. And takes forever to find someone to pay a decent price that may be looking for them.

2nd Swing does credit or cash for clubs. Cash is lower, but the 2 clubs you have would get 27 more than what TM does for trade.

Used club market is well below crap level now. Esp. when previous year models are dropping so much/so early. Some are now at 1/2 price from last year.

Par4QC I’ll have to look at second swing again. I looked at them and Global golf the other night and o could get $5 more through them🙄. Not that I’m gonna trade them in… it’s just that in 2 years the fw goes from $350 to $60. Driver is probably 5 years old and might have been $500 new? I bet in 3 more years the trade in will still be the same.

I should unload the Lost and Found from the pro shop on them. Let THEM putz with 30 clubs , who cares that I get $5.50 for them 😂

I had a lot of shafts that no one wanted, and I didn't use them myself. I was checking 2nd Swing and found almost all of them on their list they would buy. Some were even new, but from years past. I loaded a box and got some decent cash back, free shipping, iirc.
They buy heads, shafts, or full clubs.

The place I go to, Mikes Golf Outlet, used to be pretty good with trade in prices. Now, I feel like I am getting robbed. I'll get a low amount for something and see it for sale the next time I show up for at least double or more than I got. Frustrating. I do better on Offer Up app.

braveheart Yes they used to give you a decent amount. Then the decent amount was only if you took it in store credit. Now the only appeal is that it's easier to trade in than sell outright. A lot of their used club pricing is pretty high now too so they screw you twice if you trade in for shop credit lol.

I still like Callaway Pre-Owned. Their trade-in values are higher than other places and their prices for used clubs are usually fair. I like Cally stuff so it works ok for me.

Ever since the post-COVID price economy, I've noticed that trade-in prices still suck and new AND beat up used stuff prices have doubled. That's just wrong. Retailers getting more profit margin at our expense.

The last place I received what I thought was decent pricing was Golf Avenue. Granted, everything I traded in was 5 or more years old.

Typhoon Definitely except I think the 1.5 and 2X trade in specials only applies to new stuff. Not sure I've seen anyone offer it for used buying newer but still used clubs. Trading used stuff in to CPO for their used stuff isn't a bad deal IMO.

KCee RBG does +50%, but only for store credit. Can buy anything new or used.
