Trip question.

Son making another trip from LA to Clayton, NC.
Asking if I 10 to I 20 heading east would be better than taking I 40 across like he did before?
Like how would I know, never did it.

jsippy73 Not driven I40 in CA to Ok area but have driven I10 New Mexico to I20 to DFW. It is open as noted, and has high speed limts. Highest is 80, mostly 75 to DFW. Permian Basin area does have a smell but not terrible. Not a lot to look at but steady open roads, not a lot of trucking. No BucEes is that is your thing, there are some on I 40

Did that one time when I visited Dad in New Mexico and it was snowing along I-40 at the time I was planning to return. It worked out fine, but I preferred I-40. This was many years ago though and things may be different now. All I really remember is that there is a whole lot of Texas nothingness between El Paso and Dallas. I hit El Paso at 9:00AM and stopped that night in Dallas around 11:00PM if I remember right. Did avoid the bad weather though, and getting to Dallas that late helped me avoid a lot of the city traffic. Just really depends on if you like looking at the dirt in Oklahoma more than looking at the dirt in Texas. This was so long ago that I think National 55MPH speed limit was still in effect though.
