I had a similar experience on the stairs recently. Mine was because my wife "booby trapped" me. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. 😉 I don't know about the rest of you but my wife "puts things away" by placing them in a manner that I
would never think of and if I did, I couldn't do. We recently had our 50th anniversary and we brought home several gifts. One of them included a bunch of small (about 1/2") Styrofoam balls wrapped in gold foil. I called them marbles. She placed a bowl containing them on the steps but it was too large to set on one step so she let it hang over a step and braced it up by putting a couple of towel like items on the step below it which the bowl of marbles balanced on the edge of. I needed to get something at the top of the stairs and happened to bump it just a little. The bowl and marbles proceeded to tumble down the steps. I decided to back down the steps just one step so I could remove the marbles form where I was standing. Wrong thing to do. I was the cartoon character who stepped on marbles and his feet went out from under him. I fell face down on the steps catching my fall on one knee which struck a sharp item that was on the step. Yes, it not only hurt when my knee hit the step but quite severely cut me just below the knee. I made a trip out to the hospital emergency room and got put back together but it necessitated me going to wound care for three weeks. I feel for you brother.

Strong ass, diet cokes!! Geezerdom hasn't anything to do with falling down steps, believe me. Just don't ax how I know. 🙄

Yesterday afternoon in the parking lot of my physical therapist, I reached into my car and banged my head above the driver seat. Banged it pretty hard. I then proceeded to my pt appt. At tail end of appt, the phy therapist noticed a stain on my baseball hat. Turned out had a pretty good gash on top of my head.
Nothing serious but a friendly reminder of the niceties of being old.

Thanks guys. Some funny stuff here. Last year my granddaughter Julie dropped an 8lb barbell on my face and I had a big ass shiner for weeks. Now her older brother Jesse pushes me down the stairs🤣🤣🤣. I hope brother Corey doesn't have a chain saw!

Yes, I'm a handrail guy full time. I was making the turn at the landing and missed the next handrail. If the lights were on this wouldn't have happened. Dumbass move.

Still sore. This kind of injury is probably a slow healer. Supposed to go to Hilton Head next week. 🤬

Handrails and lights…Put the rails on several years ago after i slipped on the steep steps in our 1896 built house…Then 2 years ago before re-carpeting the hall and steps I replaced the stair treads with a wider tread. Helps not having to turn slightly sideways going down and they fit my size 12 shoes much better…

Sorry for your fall Steve. There will be more. the better that you prepare for them the fewer there will be. Trip hazards are the worst. I have heavy duty grab rails everywhere in my bathrooms. Never have a dark place in your house. I have low level 13 watt LED illumination everywhere that lets you see potential trip hazards. I have a heavily used stairwell that has 13 steps. It has banisters on both sides. About a year ago a few days after my wife died I was at my desk watching tv in my swivel chair and fell asleep and fell out smashing my face on the desk before hitting the floor. I couldn't get up and was barely able to crawl over and grab my cell phone with a reach extender. I couldn't manage to dial 911 but was able to call a neighbor who called 911 and had a key to let EMS in. Living alone now I wear a Lifefone watch 24/7 that will send help if I hit the help button and it has fall alert that will go off if activated. Plan ahead you old farts.

When I started playing football in grade school we wore the leather helmets. That could explain alot. 😜
