Hey, I made it 22 months. I was laid off in a mass staff reduction at age 59 1/2 in Jan 2024, and couldn't find a job that didn't require relocation, so I just entered an unplanned retirement. Now I have squeezed all the free healthcare and food stamps from the great state of California that I could. But I finally got to the point that I was going to have to start drawing from the 401k, and start paying for healthcare for our family of 4 (2 still in college).
Then last week a sort-of former employer called me, asking me if I can replace a retiring site rep they have at my old power plant which is being torn down. It is a 3-year employment, as the plant will be gone in 3 years. Good pay, full benefits, and a nice 12 minute drive to work.
At least now I have a real retirement count down. I also know that I have 3 years to find more retirement hobbies, I have been running short on things to do lately.
