Clubmaking question regarding pre-cut shafts

So I bought those Nippon Zelos 6 shafts in .370, but they were designated lengths (7, 8, 9, etc). I assumed that meant no tip trimming, assemble and butt trim to final length. I did not dry fit. I prepped the tips and epoxied the clubs together. When I went to butt trim today, I measured the G wedge to see how much I needed to cut and it was already at 35.5". I panicked for a minute thinking that might be too short. I put a matching split grip on it and it balanced at D2/3. Whew! The rest of the clubs came out to D2 once gripped, so I got lucky. Is this normal? The last set of Zelos I bought were used pulls so I figured they had been butt trimmed during assembly.

I guess I need to look at the specs closer when I buy. I'm sure they were listed as discreet lengths, but I'm used to that being the case with tapers.

.370 parallel tips are the same, discrete lengths as well for individual irons. I just reshafted my Paradym A wedge with a Nippon Pro 950 NEO designated wedge length.

Are you using Maltby irons? When I use pulls from other clubhead manufacturers, I have to use extensions or soft step because of Maltby's BBGM.

The GH line are all 35.0"/wedge and 0.5" longer from there so they are 2.0-2.5" shorter then TT and KBS. Also note Nippon has a wedge and a 9i shaft (they are different vs. TT and KBS W/9 are the same shaft -never understood this). Need to pay attention to the BBGM if making an over length set you could run into problems or need to soft step. I prefer the GH line as there is significantly less butt cut and you essentially know the cut weight as a result. Which brings up and often overlooked aspect of that line which is they will play heavier as you are trimming 2-2.5" less. It's significant when you extrapolate out the cut weight!

Note Modus are in line with TT and KBS. Always make sure to look this info up.....the first set of 1150 GH Tour I ordered I made a critical error and needed extensions on several of them before I realized what a dumbass I was 😮🙃

Constant weight. Which for my kind of fitting TLT and heft match MoI are primo.

Zelos NZNS steel to manufacture ultra light steel weight makes the walls very thin and therefore more rigid and shaft profiles display this. They are akin to the old TT TX-90 back in the day. Tip stiff to their flex. The 950GH tends to "fit" from LPGA to average male club head speed and play true to flex and can be soft stepped if a softer flex in the tip is needed. Nippon quality is second to none.

I luckily avoided this. Next time I'll order soft step lengths for safety.👍

The uni hosel will play "slightly" shorter with taper vs taper (I forget if zelos is available in taper and parallel like the rest of their offerings). Edit to say looks like you have parallel they should play at minimum 35 7/8" with grip cap (that is how I measure.

Non-taper. They came out to "standard" length and D2 swingweight. I was lucky.
