Ping Anser 2 Putter Shaft - nut and bolt?

So I just got an Anser 2 putter from a thrift store. Strangely enough, there is a small bolt / not that runs through the shaft between the grip and the shaft band.

Any idea of what that is there for? Maybe it is a prototype shaft tension adjuster? Turbulatensionadjuster?

My guess is there is something inside the shaft, and the bolt is holding it up.

I think it's an extender to lengthen or shorten the shaft. IIRC, you loosen the Allen screw. That allows you to
slide the grip end up or down the shaft to lengthen or shorten the putter, within certain parameters. Other guys more familiar with this feature may want to chime in......

That makes sense. The Ping grip has a permanent "34" printed on the cap, so maybe this was a fitting sample.

IT SHALL BE DONE! Oh, maybe not, quick googling says these may have the nasty ball bearing at the bottom of the shaft.
