Car Ramp suggestions?

Actually look like ok car ramps. But do I really want to slide under a car being held up by something called "Black Widow"?

After changing the oil in the Equinox yesterday, I noticed a crack on the end of one of the plastic ramps I've been using for the past couple of decades. Didn't really look like a load bearing part, but....

Any suggestions for brands?

Put some steel safety stands under the vehicle after pulling it up on the ramps.

johnnydoom How high are those? I've been looking at ramps for weeks. I'd glady save $60 and change my own, if I can get to it. I'm limited, with my front end, I think.

The one's in the photo says they are 6 and a quarter inches high. The ones I just threw away were about the same. They worked on all of our vehicles, but did rub a little on the low skirt of my Scion iM. The bottom of the ramp would contact the front of the tire at the same time the middle of the ramp bumped up on the bottom of the front skirt on the Scion. Didn't cause any problems though. They do make some low profile ramps, but of course you won't get at much clearance to work.

Going to head to Harbor Freight and check their's out. The Project Farm dude on YouTube tested a bunch of plastic and steel ramps and the plastic ones from Harbor Freight did as good or better than any other brand, including 3 steel versions he tried.

I have a pair of the RhinoRamps that have held up well for over 5 years now. I had some old steel ramps before that, but they were too steep for the old car without using boards with them. I still use jack stands with them just in case.

I now own a pair of Pittsburgh 3-3/4 ton ramps from Harbor Freight. I'll do a review on them if a car doesn't fall on me. First things first, they aren't stackable like my old ones, but the lattice pattern top-to-bottom that prevents stacking probably adds a bit of strength over my old ones too.

I had a pair of the metal ones from HF and they worked just fine, but they tended to 'slide'
on the garage floor, so I had to put a couple of 2x4's in back of the ramps as braces against the garage wall.
Also my Subie sat pretty low, so a block of wood was needed in the front of the ramp to drive up on first.

ALSO: DO NOT DRIVE OFF THE END OF THE RAMP!

darpar Actually had 2 sets of ramps. One was a pair of metal ramps that was much easier to move around than the pair of wooden ones my grandfather built. He built the wooden ramps so we could change the oil on his 1976 Eldorado. Been doing oil changes and siphoning gas by mouth with a hose for the lawnmower since I was 8. My grandfather has a passion for anything that weighed a million pounds. He and my father built me a regulation size hockey net out of 2x4’s and burlap that took half the kids on the street to move. Also gave me a wooden extension ladder🙄… which rotted and a pole saw where he made all the extensions from working in the boiler room in a hospital. Try putting a few extensions together and then lift it to a tree branch🙄.

The final thing left is a safe that is close to 100 years old at my parents house. I told this story before but they would always use these big boards as a way of carrying it up to the top floor of the house so nobody would steal it. It was immovable anyway .. I could have left the fuckin thing in the driveway and nobody would be able to steal it.

Typhoon siphoning is an art, how many mouthfuls of gas did you get before learning how?
I've done it enough to know that I hate the taste of gas, diesel is more my taste.

Walterjn Grew up on a farm, so know how to siphon. Never had even 1 taste!! 👍

Walterjn I still remember it was my parents 1968 Chrysler Newport and Pontiac Tempest. I remember getting a mouthful and burping gasoline for a day or so. I learned pretty quick where in the tube the gas got to and then put in in the mower tank. I was probably ly the only 8 year old with gasoline breath.

A clear siphon line works much better than a garden hose, ask me how I know! 😁

Typhoon I've been there and done that.
1st time i ever did that, I got a full mouthful and swallowed some, puked a few times and still has gasoline breath. Took a few times to not get a mouthful. Gasoline tastes like crap, diesel takes much better.
