Walterjn I prefer credit card for everything as it increases my rewards program. I took my son to Germany and Switzerland for 12 days this year with rewards. Both flights and hotels.

Par4QC those places are plain stupid. Why would you tell a customer you are charging them a fee? Offer them a discount for cash, now they have an incentive to use cash and feel good about it. Companies have built in the CC charge for years, just plan on it and don’t draw attention to it.

Par4QC I pay the fee, the rewards, so far, outweigh additional costs. I plan to take my son internationally every year for some time.

I've never understood the 3.5% charge that CC companies hit businesses with. I had a business once and was contacted by a couple CC companies. I thought this was great, I was going to make more money by taking credit cards. Then they told me I was to pay THEM. I told them no, you have it ass backwards. I'm bringing people to you, and you are making a ton of money from them....I should be getting a cut, not paying!!

DC300 Here, nearly all places offer the cash price first, then mention the fee if using credit card. No true "discount". A couple times it seems they had to go to a special place to get a card reader.🤣 Worse case I use the ATM, my bank has unlimited ATM fees.

SMT I have tried to explain this to a couple of fund raising groups, they are too stubborn or stupid to take the advice and continue to wonder why they can’t get people to give them cash at live events.

Par4QC we are using Square to take card payments, it’s not great, 2.21% plus .15 a swipe. Thing thing about it is, last year 87% of (recorded) transactions were done digitally and all my competitors only take cash. The nearest ATM is a bit of a hike, so my options were to either buy an ATM and keep it stocked or take cards and collect what I can while people are on site, not letting them walk away empty handed and have time to think about not coming back. I’ll give up a little (lies, I’m just building in 3%) and not worrying about it in order to capture the extra volume.

Bravopilot I just don’t think that’s good business practice. We have been conditioned to be excited about discounts and avoid fees. I’d rather have the “fee” built in and let people feel good about the discount they get for cash.

Hundreds are getting awfully close to the new twenty. Like much of the info from our government, inflation numbers are either straight up lied about, or driven by selective and manipulated data.

I do not understand when people(sellers) complain about losing money on fees, when this is a most obvious solution. Businesses can stand firm, posted pricing. Anyone selling online, esp. 2nd hand needs to do this. Hell, they almost always take a best offer anyway.

I once told someone online/public sales forum, when talking about this, that I figure in shipping fees and any fees such as from PP. Then I give free shipping. That damned idiot said I was cheating buyers!!

I know of 1 local station that charges more for CCs, but it is posted on the huge flashing sign showing 'cash/credit'.
