Steve, you are absolutely correct. My current bag is filled with "oldies": 975D driver, 18* and 22* Orlimar Hip Steel fairway woods, Maxfli A10 irons, Acer XB 56* and 60* wedges. My putter is newer: Cleveland Smart Square mallet.
I'm playing really good golf lately, even with a bad back.
Personally, I see no advantage to spending thousands on new clubs. We all want new, shiny things at times, but, at least for me, I see no real difference in what I score using old (older) vs. new.
