Hey everybody! It's been a while. Some of you may remember me from the old FGI where I was a regular. I see a lot of the same names here, so I thought I'd post about a great (IMO) find I made.
I had been looking for a set of 2003 Tommy Armour 845 MB forged Silverback irons for about three years. Recently a set popped up. What made it so hard is, I wanted R flex shafts and as y'all know, forged irons mostly have still flex shafts.
Anyway, a set popped up on eBay with R flex shafts. You know it's old school when the set is 3-PW. The ad said they were in mint condition. I thought yea right. But I bought them and after USPS shipped them around half the country, 11 days later they showed up.
To my surprise, they were in fact mint! It looked like the only club that was hit was maybe the 5 iron. They are beautiful! So I rushed out to the range to give them a whirl. These are the heads that were designed by Roger Maltby back in 2003 and are rated as "Game Improvement" clubs with a MPF rating of 650.
Well, they are somewhat forgiving, but let you know when you miss and where you missed. Ball flight was pretty high on the short irons and medium in the long.
My only issue is, they are 1" over length. So I choked down on them to try and compensate. I'll probably cut them down to std size when I get a chance. Overall, I was pleased with how they hit and felt. Not long by any stretch, but they were pretty consistently on target.
Anyway, I just wanted to reintroduce myself and share my excitement. Here are some pics, because I know without those, it didn't happen!
OOPS! How do I post pics here?
