Today is final qualifying. This kid is a high school junior.

The drones and cameras don't do the greens justice as far as the slope, undulations , and severity. anyone go this week or who has been that could comment on the green complexes?

ode Ther are places on the greens where you can putt it 15 past the hole and 7 feet left, and the ball will turn around and come back to the hole. On 13 one of the amateurs hut a good tee shot, right on the pin but about 22 feet short. The putt was to break to the left really hard in the last ten feet, but to get to that spot it had to graze the edge of a swale that would take it to the right and potentially off the green. His original putt barely got through the swale but parked itself ar the top of the slope that would have taken the ball to the hole, leaving him at least 9 feet short. A gentle nudge sent the ball down to the hole from there.

The slopes are much more severe than what they look like on tv.

By design. It never is. 👍. It's a find the fairway and try to hold the greens tournament. Par is your friend.

ode so much for being "freed up" after the green jacket.

The 81 was with finishing birdie, birdie. 😳 Yeah, I like many thought it would ‘free him up’. Turns out he lost some motivation. Looking for him to find that motivation this week. We shall see.

Rory has his Grand Slam, his trophy case is pretty full, his wallet is getting too heavy to carry around and he's moving back to England after the U.S. Open. He'll play the DP Tour and in the States a little but cut back a lot - Put a fork in him, he's done...

Rory’s had a great year by most standards. Won at Pebble Beach, won the Players and the Masters. He’s one of only a few who is a threat anytime he tees it up. I don’t see him falling off the map just yet. Still in his prime imo.

I think we forget that golf is the same at all levels. Tough to play at your best or with your A game all the time. Everyone finds it, loses it etc.. Except maybe for Scottie right now. lol

He's a head case and looks distracted more than usual, and maybe golf is not as fun as it used to be for him.
I don't think he's completely done yet though (as raggmann suggests), but maybe done with the USA, the travel, and the media.
I think he actually enjoys the Ryder Cup so that might be his motivation to continue for now.
He wouldn't need to qualify via points, as a Captain's pick would be reserved for him, imo.

I think he and the ol lady just built a home in England so that makes sense.

Lots of admiration for his talent and accomplishments. IMO he's the same guy as leading up to The Masters. He will have stretches of greatness and then poof, missed cut/middle of the pack stuff. Not a time to be off your game going into the US Open. I still find myself cheering for him!

He stated before the season that he would only be playing the minimum tourneys, maybe 20 or less, and that would not include all of the big money weeks.

Love the shaping of the greens, they look very interesting.....just wish the camera would pick up the slopes/,etc more for the eye to see vs. watching the ball do some interesting things🙃

Par4QC He stated before the season

yes, this season.
I was looking ahead to next year, after he moves his "base" to England.
He could go back to playing more on the DP tour and less PGA which would likely mean less "points" overall. I'm betting he's pissed at Monahan so won't be promoting that tour.
Also betting his wife has a lot to do with all of it. 🙂

Give more of a reason for viewers to tune in. Euro Tour used to be fun to watch because more of their guys were there and most every tourney had a few US Tour guys sprinkled in. Not quite the same anymore. Hopefully his presence will start the wheels in motion!
