Yes, weight and shaft profile are the two most important factors to the fitting equation. Golfers needs to know their driver SS, transition time, and if they are early-mid or late release. Most know their driver SS but don't know the other two. The other two are as much important as the SS.

Maybe, but I just played 14 holes with the same swing. So why when I switched drivers did I suddenly get longer? Coincidence? Very possible as 3 swings is a very small sample size but still intriguing, at least to me.

garyt1957 Not knowing what your 2 drivers are, but assuming you hit the Mavrik, there could be as much as 3g diff in head weight(maybe even more), along with shaft weight. Then there is the flex diff also.
My experience is the Mavrik is lighter than a lot of heads.
Head weight should include adapter, btw. They all weigh differently also from OEM-OEM....as much as 4g from Ping to Callaway.

My driver shaft and iron shafts are all regular flex.

I don't get it, but I don't mess with success.

I've found that shaft weight and torque make more of a difference than flex. I can hit an L, A, R and S flex shaft the same lousy 180 yards. They just feel different and might fly different heights.

There are no industry standards in flex. Comparison of one shaft's profile to another with weight will yield reality.

With any club if the first time you hit it, you hit it well, that says something. You know you can hit it well. Confidence is everything in golf. A club you hit well gives you confidence.

Now, whether it's just a short lived honeymoon or a long term love affair is yet to be determined. But if the first date goes well there is reason for optimism. So much of golf is unexplainable. If it works, it works. No need to know why.

This is why you always purchase the club you hit so well at your local discount golf store at a bargain price as it's a demo. The chances another new off the rack same club will exhibit the same characteristics are slim. The poon may not be there.

Sneakylong I’ll take this one step further and for some reason 90% of the time you try a different club you hit it great. Call it a honeymoon period, a change of pace, etc.

Just get out the spoke shave and effect the way the shaft performs and smoother swingers always do better with hickory. ie. Bobby Jones type swings.

Being a logger I understand a lot more about hickory properties (I cut around 150 to 200 shagbark hickory's a year) and shaving a lil too much doesn't effect playability all that much. You'll never get a whippy hickory shaft. It blends into swing the whole club and for those the expect that whip or rebound it ain't there.

I play 6 club hickory golf 2x a month with a hickory friend. Always fun and it doesn't compare to modern metal golf and makes one fully aware how easy modern equipment makes the game.

When I'm playing with grandson Jesse, I occasionally borrow his STEEL shafted Big Bertha 5 wood and kill it. I have no idea why. It defies all fitting logic.

For shits and giggles i put an X flex House of Forged Code 6 into my G400 Max. I hit it about the same as my Speeder Air 45A.
Go figure. And my good hits with both of them are about 250 with a 95 mph swing speed.
Then again, the G400 Max makes anything good.

I read an article years ago from a club fitting shop about shaft flex choices for women. Testing revealed that for some golfers with swing speeds between 85-90 mph, better distance was achieved from a stiff shaft.

Went out today and took an A flex Ozik White Tie, R flex Ping CB Alta stock, an R flex with stiff tip Wishon S2 Black and hit my BIL's stiff. I still likely hit the stiff the best. His driver is an old TM R11 I think . I did smoke the Ping one time downwind 270 but that was a fluke. Last year I just cleared out all my old stiff shafts, wouldn't you know it.

There’s plenty of YouTube videos saying shaft flex doesn’t matter. Again, it’s all what gives you confidence. If stiff flex makes you more confident and you hit better drives that’s all that matters.

When I got my G425 I got the closest to the after market Graphite Design Tour AD that I bought for my G400. They’re not exactly the same, but close enough. I think I hit it better than the stock Ping shafts. Could be all in my head and probably is.

But I hit them well and it gives me confidence. So that’s all that matters. Played with a guy who was well into his 70’s in our old men’s group and he was fit for a stiff flex. He was a short hitter. So who knows? 🤔
