Sandbagging police?

Our pro just informed the members that we are now required to post on GHIN at least 75% of our rounds played. He knows who plays and when as we are required to sign in to start, so he's now watching for those folks that frequently shoot under their handicap in net competitions (some "never" post their rounds outside of events). If you post under 75% of your rounds, you are banned from net competitions unless you can explain why. Of course, it doesn't prevent outright lying when you post, but it's a start.

Note, that USGA requires90%.

We only just rejoined in January and I have not competed in any net events. My weekly senior League match play team are all standup guys who respect the game so I'm not sure who the culprits are yet.......but we all know they're there.

I like the idea of only tournament rounds count as handicap for tournaments. So no shooting 95s and then 75 in a tournament. Your tournament handicap would be based off the 75

Exactly the way our tournament series works. Only tournament scores are used to determine an handicap. After 5 tournaments you get an “official” handicap. For those first 5 rounds you cannot shoot a net score below par. I have yet to hear a complaint.

I gave up keeping a handicap a few yers ago. With all the stupid BS from the USGA I decided I didn’t want any part of them. I don’t play in anything where I need an official handicap. It also keeps people from asking me to play in things with them👍. Anyone asks I tell them I shoot in the 90’s.

At my club I was the organizer for 8-12 guys every Saturday and Sunday morning. It was a thankless job, but somehow I put up with the occasional bitching and moaning. Most were good guys.

At the end of every round I collected the scorecards and made sure that everyone came to the GHIN computer (where I sat and observed) until everyone entered their scores.

What would frustrate me is that a couple of guys hated posting high scores. I guess it was a pride thing. And no one wanted them on their team because they hardly ever played to their handicap. And that's ultimately what led to our group assigning someone to collect the cards (in case I wasn't there someone else would do it) to make sure rounds were getting posted.

Put someone in your group in charge of collecting scorecards. That should help.

I recently got dragged onto our Handicap committee at the club. No one really cares about the GHIN until someone wins a couple of the bigger tournaments. There are a handful that always seem to keep high handicaps and then always go low in tournaments. Once is fluke, but 3 times and you're getting looked at. A few people were banned from tournaments and others get their handicap "adjusted".

Then we have they guys that everyone wants to play against, but no one wants to partner with in tournaments. One of the guys in my group is like that. Years ago he probably was no more than a 12, but now he's a 19 and really should be a 24. He won't post any score over 95 and is only a 19 because some of us will post his scores and so will the tournament committee.

Maybe because I'm cheap, but I don't understand why you would want to lose money every round because of a vanity handicap. I don't like sandbagging, but at least that makes sense to me.

I sometimes play in a Saturday morning stableford game. Your points are whatever you shot last week. So you maybe can cheat once but it is tough to repeat it because the points are tracked weekly so if you were an 8 last week and this week you're a 21... well you better not be an 8 the next week again.
